A Special Note of Thanks

A resident who recently left the Church in the City Women’s  Shelter expressed the following words of thanks to all the staff: “I would like to say thanks for being so kind and concerned about me. I also want to thank you all for all the encouraging words and the knowledge that I have gotten from you. I also want to thank God for the cooks, for blessing me with all the wonderful meals. May God continue to bless each and every one of you. I thank God for the wonderful experience I had here at Church in the City.”

Lost & Found

A resident at Church in the City Women’s Shelter was the victim of identity theft several years ago and just recently completed the process to re-establish her identity and obtain an identification card. About a month ago, she lost her purse. In it was her money, identification card, medication, etc. She was very distraught when she returned to the shelter that evening, considering the arduous process she had just gone through to get her identity back.

When she came in and told us what happened, we recounted the story of a former resident who had experienced a similar situation and God returned her purse and everything in it to her the next day, after we prayed. So we immediately prayed with this current resident that God would restore all of her belongings as well. She had been many places that day and could not remember when she last had her purse. She said she could have lost it anywhere between 9 am and 4 pm.

The next morning as she was about to retrace all of her steps from the previous day and inquire about her purse, another resident strongly urged her to first go to the grocery store that she had visited the day before. And there it was, her purse and all of its contents, at the customer service counter! Glory to God!!!

Protestors/Supporters rally in Controversial Mosque Case

Tensions continue to grow in New York as construction plans for a controversial mosque move forward. The building area scheduled for the mosque and surrounding area has been the site of several heated protests from both sides. Supporters of the mosque are calling the protests an act of racism against Muslims. Families of those lost on Sept. 11 and supporters say the mosque is too close to Ground Zero. A New York relations expert believes the project will eventually move because of the controversy. Mosque organizers said they will not move, but are currently meeting with shareholders on the issue.  Another mosque is reportedly planned for another location near the area not by the same group. The mosque is being sponsored by the Cordoba Initiative. The name Cordoba is also the name chosen for the mosque. Opponents say this name is no coincidence; Cordoba was the name of a mosque built after Muslims conquered Spain on the ruins of a Christian Cathedral in the 8th century.

SNBC News Correction on Recent Story

Recently in our Health segment, SNBC news reported a story, involving the sweetener fructose and its reaction in cancer cell tests.  During the report fructose was reported as High Fructose Corn Syrup. Fructose and High Fructose Corn Syrup are two different sweeteners. Fructose is considered altered when combined with other sweeteners such as glucose, but it is not the same as High Fructose Corn Syrup.  SNBC News apologizes for any confusion related to this mistake.

SNBC Health News Recent Egg Recall Expands

The Recent egg recall has expanded to 380 million eggs. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is currently working with officials in three states to narrow down the salmonella outbreak. North Carolina and South Carolina at this time are not apart of the recall. The states at the focus of the investigation are Colorado, California, and Minnesota. Contaminated eggs were packaged between May 16 and Aug. 13. These eggs were shipped to various stores including Ralph’s, Farm Fresh, and Dutch Farms. Again the recall is currently in Colorado, California, and Minnesota. The CDC is keeping consumers’ nationwide updated in case the recall spreads. SNBC News will keep you updated on this recall as it develops.

August 29, 2010 Segment- Hollywood uses Hell and Jesus Christ for “Entertainment”

It’s interesting how hell has stepped up its agenda to influence and infiltrate our lives through the various media venues. As children of God, we are to be sober and vigilant.   The Word of God tells us that our adversary walks about as a roaring lion seeking whom he may devour: In the Reject the Low life segment SNBC News will share some of the subtle and not-so-subtle attempts by Satan to devour using the influence of TV/Movies, Music and Video Games

Hollywood currently has two animated series:  one that premiered this summer and the other that is in development scheduled to air sometime during the 2010-2011 television season:

Neighbors from Hell
Balathazor and his family head to earth with one mission: to blend in with the humans and figure out how to destroy the drill, thus protecting Hell. More accustomed to life in the nether regions, the Hellmans try to follow the rule of SNORFIN--"seem normal and fit in"--but they quickly learn that humans can be more evil than any demon ever could. The Hellmans (demons) are sent on a mission by Satan to protect hell.  Their approach is simply to “blend in”.  They destroy and advance the mission that Satan has given them by infiltrating and blending in…until they can destroy their target… When asked what challenges creator of the series Pam Brady has encountered with the show, she shared, “Well, I think one of the biggest challenges is how you make a family of demons likable? How do you get on their side? It really was one of those things that we went round and round about. You don't want to remove that it's fun to watch demons because they like to see things blow up. In a way, it's like Bart Simpson: you like fun mischief but you don't like evil.”

JC SERIES: according to the Huffington Post, Comedy Central said last month that "JC" is one of two dozen series it has in development. The concept is to depict Christ as a "regular guy" who moves to New York to "escape his father's enormous shadow." Besides the outright disregard for the deity of Christ, through this show, those who are unaware will be desensitized to their need for Christ as our Savior.  If convinced that He is an everyday human being, people will not see or understand how He can make a difference in their lives.  More importantly it takes away from the reality of eternity.  Such ideas and concepts as these are strategic to lend to the falsehood that there is no eternity-so life should be lived for today because there is no tomorrow.  Interestingly enough when Comedy Central was threatened by Muslims for show a depiction of Muhammad, the company back off the subject out of “concern for disrespecting the Islamic culture”. Next week Part 2 highlights a popular reality show and a long-running animated series.

AUGUST 22, 2010

SNBC News continued its coverage of Victory Christian Center’s Missions’ trip to Haiti. SNBC Anchor Wendy Chaplin interviewed Phyllis Finch- Missions Department Director for Victory Christian Center. During the interview Mrs. Finch spoke on her experience on the ground in Haiti and the reality of the situation that most faced on that tragic day in January. She described the area in Port- Au- Prince (the center of the earthquake)  saying that some areas in the capital still looked as if the earthquake had just happened. Finch spoke of the joy she felt to be part of this trip. She also spoke of the people and how they continue to be so hospitable despite their own circumstances ;a common statement among those who traveled on the trip.  Mrs. Finch wants people to continue to pray for the nation of Haiti and its’ people as they continue to rebuild.

AUGUST 15, 2010

SNBC News presented exclusive footage and interviews courtesy of SNBC anchor Josh Gist during his time in Haiti. Josh along with 16 other members of Victory Christian Center’s Missions team spent several days in Haiti volunteering in the city of Gonaives assisting Pastor Michele Moresset and his Ebenezer church congregation. The team helped the pastor and his congregation prepare a building in the area to host victims; they also provided medical care. Josh captured his experience in hours of video footage and over 600 photos depicting the people, the earthquake's destruction and the rebuilding efforts.  When describing his time in Haiti Josh called the experience “Life Changing”; and hopes to return one day.
