📖 I answered them, The God of heaven will prosper us; therefore we His servants will arise and build, but you have no portion or right or memorial in Jerusalem.
—Nehemiah 2:20 AMPC

When you know that God has told you to do something, and you are obedient to whatever it is He has asked you to do, you can expect the God of Heaven to prosper you. When we are obedient to the Word of God and living a life that is pleasing unto Him, God promises to bless the works of our hands (Deut. 28:8). The Lord takes pleasure in our prosperity (Psalm 35:27), and it makes Him look good when we are excelling. It makes Him look good when we are the head and not the tail, above only and not beneath. III John 2 even tells us that God wishes above all things that we prosper and be in health, even as our soul prospers. As we walk with God, we can expect our lives to get better and better. He will take us from glory to glory.

📖 The sky and the earth (the universe, the world) will pass away, but My words will not pass away.

But take heed to yourselves and be on your guard, lest your hearts be overburdened and depressed (weighed down) with the giddiness and headache and nausea of self-indulgence, drunkenness, and worldly worries and cares pertaining to [the business of] this life, and [lest] that day come upon you suddenly like a trap or a noose;

For it will come upon all who live upon the face of the entire earth.

Keep awake then and watch at all times [be discreet, attentive, and ready], praying that you may have the full strength and ability and be accounted worthy to escape all these things [taken together] that will take place, and to stand in the presence of the Son of Man.
—Luke 21: 33-36 AMPC

Jesus is giving us a warning that should cause every believer to be sober about the times we are living in. All of us have the potential to allow our hearts to be overburdened with the cares of this life. If we aren’t careful, we can lose sight of the things that are important and find ourselves in a backslidden condition. We must stay prayed up, alert and attentive. We cannot allow the things of this world to weigh us down to the point that we miss Heaven. Prayer is fellowshipping with our Heavenly Father. As we are consistent in our fellowship with Him, it helps us to stay focused and keep the proper perspective on things. It allows us to continue to set our eyes on things that are above. We must continue to seek first the kingdom of God and be about our Father’s business. As we do those things, it will help to keep things in perspective. Let’s keep our eyes on God.

📖 The Lord hath heard my supplication; the Lord will receive my prayer. —Psalm 6:9 KJV

God answers prayer. Isn’t that comforting to know? When we find ourselves in a tough situation, we can pray and get His Wisdom. When we have a need, we can pray and know that He will meet that need. If we just need someone to talk to, we can go to God knowing that He hears us when we talk with Him. He is a very present help in the time of trouble. He is our shield and buckler. Whatever need we have in this life, we are only a prayer away from receiving from Him. We simply must go to Him in faith, knowing that we have the petitions that we requested of Him. God is always there for us, we simply must go to Him in prayer, knowing He wants to move on our behalf.

📖 Don’t let all kinds of strange teachings lead you into the wrong way. Depend only on God’s grace for spiritual strength, not on rules about foods. Obeying those rules doesn’t help anyone. —Hebrews 13:9 ERV

We are to hold fast to sound teachings. We are living in the last days, and Paul warned Timothy that people would give heed to seducing spirits and doctrines of devils (I Timothy 4:1). The Word of God should be the stabilizing factor in our lives. It is the anchor for our souls. The Word of God is to be the foundation of our lives. It will keep us when we encounter the storms of life. It will cause us to overcome in every area of our lives. We must stick to the basics of the Word of God and not allow ourselves to be carried away with every doctrine that is popular yet contradicts the Word of God. Paul told Timothy to hold fast to the sound doctrine that he had received since a child. God’s Word never changes. We must stick to what we know. We must hold fast to sound doctrine.

📖 I have given and delivered to them Your word (message) and the world has hated them, because they are not of the world [do not belong to the world], just as I am not of the world.

I do not ask that You will take them out of the world, but that You will keep and protect them from the evil one.

They are not of the world (worldly, belonging to the world), [just] as I am not of the world.

Sanctify them [purify, consecrate, separate them for Yourself, make them holy] by the Truth; Your Word is Truth.

Just as You sent Me into the world, I also have sent them into the world.
—John 17:14-18 AMPC

We are to be the light of the world and the salt of the earth. God never intended for us to blend in with the world. He doesn’t expect the world to love us. In fact, Jesus is telling us to expect the world not to like us because we do not belong to the world, just as He did not belong to the world. We are ambassadors of Heaven. God has sent us into the world, and we have been given the ministry of reconciliation. We are to tell the world how much God loves them. We are to tell people about Jesus, and our lifestyle should demonstrate a difference. How we talk should show that there is a difference. We have been separated through the Word. We cannot let God down; we are all He has in the earth.

📖 Then the [Holy] Spirit said to Philip, Go forward and join yourself to this chariot. Accordingly Philip, running up to him, heard [the man] reading the prophet Isaiah and asked, Do you really understand what you are reading? —Acts 8:29-30 AMPC

We must never forget that we are co-laborers with God. We are God’s hands and feet in the earth. When God instructs us to do something, it is imperative that we listen and obey. Someone’s salvation could depend on our obedience. The Spirit of God spoke to Philip, and he ran. He did not try to process the instruction. He did not try to reason with God. When the Spirit of God told Philip to join himself to the chariot. He did exactly what God asked him to do. His obedience caused a man to get born again and to be baptized in water. This had to be a life changing experience for the Ethiopian. You can only imagine what this did for Philip and his relationship with God. Philip not only led the man to Christ, but he was translated to another city, supernaturally. His life had become an adventure in God. Our lives will become an adventure as well, when we are obedient to His instructions. All of us should have an adventure in God.

📖 Where are the ones who honor the Lord? God will teach them which path to take. They will live a good life, and their descendants will possess the land. The Lord counsels those who honor him; he makes his covenant known to them. —Psalm 25:12-14 CEB

It pays to honor the Lord. The psalmist tells us that when we honor God, He will show us which path to take. God will lead us and guide us. When we honor God, we can count on living a good life. Our lives are to get better and better and go from glory to glory. God will not only counsel us, but He will give us insight into His covenant. He will give us revelations that others don’t have. God doesn’t share His secrets with everyone, but He will for those who honor Him with their lives. When we honor God, He honors us.

📖 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. —Romans 1:16 KJV

When we believe and act upon the Word of God, that promise of God is transformed into the power of God. The Word of God itself contains the power of God necessary to produce what it promises. Proverbs 4 tells us that God’s Word is life to those that find them and health to all their flesh. Psalms 107:20 tells us that, “He sent his word, and healed them, and delivered them from their destructions”. The Word healed and delivered. Never forget that God and His Word are one. His Word can do whatever He can do. We must prioritize the Word of God and give it first place in our lives. As we do, we will see more manifestations of its power. Remember, “man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God” (Matthew 4:4).

DAILY DEVOTIONAL | August 17th

📖 [But] he who commits sin [who practices evildoing] is of the devil [takes his character from the evil one], for the devil has sinned (violated the divine law) from the beginning. The reason the Son of God was made manifest (visible) was to undo (destroy, loosen, and dissolve) the works the devil [has done].

No one born (begotten) of God [deliberately, knowingly, and habitually] practices sin, for God’s nature abides in him [His principle of life, the divine sperm, remains permanently within him]; and he cannot practice sinning because he is born (begotten) of God.

By this it is made clear who take their nature from God and are His children and who take their nature from the devil and are his children: no one who does not practice righteousness [who does not conform to God’s will in purpose, thought, and action] is of God; neither is anyone who does not love his brother (his fellow believer in Christ).
—I John 3:8-10 AMPC

Has anyone ever said, “You look just like your mother.”? Or maybe: “Your father used to act the same way” or “He used to do something like that in his younger days”? We all tend to have character traits that are like our parents, from a natural perspective. We can have the same tendencies as our Father from a spiritual perspective. If we are born again, we have God's nature. We can have a love nature. We can be extraordinarily patient, or kind, or peaceful. Those are just some of the fruits of the spirit that are in us because of the new birth. If one isn’t born again, he/she has the devil's nature. It's easy to lie, steal, or cheat. As believers, we must allow our Father God's nature to cause us to be the world's light or the earth's salt. The world should be able to tell that we are different because of our Father. We can all miss the mark, but we should strive to be more like Jesus, the ultimate example. He said that if you have seen me, you have seen the Father. That should be our goal.

📖 We know [positively] that we are of God, and the whole world [around us] is under the power of the evil one. —I John 5:19 AMPC

People of God are different. We are not to act like the world. We are not to talk like the world. We are not to imitate this world because the world is under the influence of the wicked one. The world is being run by God’s enemy. God tells us that if we are a friend of the world, then we are His enemy as well (James 4:4). God does expect there to be a separation between us and the world. He tells us to come out from among them (the world) and to be separate (II Corinthians 6:17). Once we do, God said that He would be a Father to us, and we would be legitimate children of God (II Corinthians 6:18). We have been delivered out of the kingdom of darkness and translated into the kingdom of God’s dear Son (Colossians 1:13). We ARE different: God expects us to look like and act like it.

📖 And the Angel of the Lord appeared to him and said to him, The Lord is with you, you mighty man of [fearless] courage. —Judges 6:12 AMPC

Gideon had been chosen by God to deliver His people from the hand of the Midianites. When the Angel of the Lord appeared to Gideon, he called him a mighty man of courage. Gideon was anything but courageous. He asked God for several fleeces and was still shaky about his assignment until he overheard a conversation by the enemy (Judges 7). God did not see Gideon as he was, God saw him as a deliverer. God saw him as a fearless man of courage. Many times, we may not appear to be what God has called us to be. God called us healed, prosperous, redeemed, etc. Many times, we don’t look like it or even feel like it from a natural perspective. That is when you walk by faith and not by sight. That is when you agree with God regardless of how you feel. Our job is to call it the way God calls it and to see it the way God sees it. As we continue to do that, our circumstances will fall in line. As we walk with God, His thinking will rub off on us, and we will eventually start to think the way He thinks. And as we do that, we will experience victory the way He planned it. Let’s agree with God today, and things will get better as we do.

📖 For whatever is born of God is victorious over the world; and this is the victory that conquers the world, even our faith.

Who is it that is victorious over [that conquers] the world but he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God [who adheres to, trusts in, and relies on that fact]?
—I John 5:4-5 AMPC

Once you have made Jesus the Lord of your life, you are given a measure of the God kind of faith (Romans 12: 3). God expects us to take the faith that has been given to us and overcome (conquer) the world with it. While Jesus was on the earth, he was a conqueror. He overcame every obstacle, every storm, and every hindrance that the devil would put in His path. Jesus was and is our example. He expects us to win the same way He did. If God tells us to conquer, then we can do it. If He tells us to overcome, we can do it. If faith will conquer the world, then we must grow and develop it. Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God (Romans 10:17). As we hear the Word and do the Word, our faith will grow, and it will develop. It will eventually get us to a place where we will experience victory in every area of our lives.

📖 You will show me the path of life; In Your presence is fullness of joy. At Your right hand are pleasures forevermore. —Psalm 16:11 NKJV

Because of our relationship with our Heavenly Father, He will show us the right path. If you choose to walk on that path, the Lord’s presence will go with you. As you rely on Him and put the total weight of your trust, honor, and love in Him, you will find yourself in His right hand. Did you note the progression? First: Relationship - God will show you. Second: Fellowship - If you move in His direction, His presence will go with you. Third: Friendship - If you value His presence, He will position you at His right hand. Relationship to fellowship and fellowship to friendship is what our Heavenly Father offers. Why? Because He wants you to experience abundant life, fullness of joy, and pleasures that are eternal! If the path you are on is not producing the abundant life Jesus paid for you to have, get in pursuit of the Lord. If you are not experiencing the presence of God with the fullness of joy, regardless of what is happening on the journey, pursue Him for direction. Get back on the path of life! If you find yourself with more pain than pleasure, pursue God’s presence until you are at His right hand. He has provided all that you need. Will you accept it?

📖 My son, keep my words; lay up within you my commandments [for use when needed] and treasure them. Keep my commandments and live, and keep my law and teaching as the apple (the pupil) of your eye. Bind them on your fingers; write them on the tablet of your heart. Say to skillful and godly Wisdom, You are my sister, and regard understanding or insight as your intimate friend—That they may keep you from the loose woman, from the adventuress who flatters with and makes smooth her words. —Proverbs 7:1-5 AMPC

The Word of God will keep you. It will keep you from the loose man and it will keep you from the loose woman. It will keep you from the dishonest man and dishonest woman. The Word of God will keep you out of trouble. If you obey the Word, it will keep you out of ungodly places and out of relationships with ungodly people. We are instructed to lay up the Word in our hearts, keep them as the apple of our eye, bind them on our fingers, and write them on our heart. In other words, put the Word everywhere, so that you won’t forget what it says. Those words are life to those who find them, and health to all our flesh (Proverbs 4:22).

📖 Cainan’s father was Enos; Enos’s father was Seth; Seth’s father was Adam; Adam’s father was God. —Luke 3:38 The Living Bible

It has always been the desire of God to be a Father to His children. When He created Adam, He created Him for fellowship. Adam was treated like a son. Adam was to rule the earth the way that God ruled the heavens. Adam was made in the image and likeness of God, like a child is to his parent. When Adam disobeyed God in the Garden, he died spiritually, and Satan was his new father. Adam was spiritually dead just like Satan is. God sent His Son Jesus to redeem mankind and to give us the opportunity to receive sonship (Galatians 4:5). That same chapter tells us that we are no more servants, but sons (v.7). We are not only sons of God, but we are heirs of God through Christ (Galatians 4:7). We have been restored back to our rightful place, let us walk like it and talk like it.

📖 Don't be like the people of this world, but let God change the way you think. Then you will know how to do everything that is good and pleasing to him. —Romans 12:2 CEV

As we continue to walk with God, we must continue to renew our minds to the Word of God. God has given us His Word to change our thinking. In order to live on a higher level, we must think on a higher because as a man thinketh, so is he (Proverbs 23:7). Our outer world is simply a reflection of our inner world. As you feed on the Word of God, it will change your image. It will change how you see yourself and a correlation will take place on the outside. God doesn’t have limitations. All things are possible with Him. His Word tells us that all things are possible with us as well. We are made in God’s image, and we are capable of living in victory the way He walks in victory. The Word of God even tells us that as He is (Jesus), so are we in this world. God expects us to rule and reign as kings in this life. As we renew our minds to the Word of God, eventually we will.

📖 Then I said to them, You see the bad situation we are in—how Jerusalem lies in ruins, and its gates are burned with fire. Come, let us build up the wall of Jerusalem, that we may no longer be a disgrace.

Then I told them of the hand of my God which was upon me for good, and also the words that the king had spoken to me. And they said, Let us rise up and build! So they strengthened their hands for the good work.

But when Sanballat the Horonite and Tobiah the servant, the Ammonite, and Geshem the Arab heard of it, they laughed us to scorn and despised us and said, What is this thing you are doing? Will you rebel against the king?

I answered them, The God of heaven will prosper us; therefore we His servants will arise and build, but you have no portion or right or memorial in Jerusalem.
—Nehemiah 2:17-20 AMPC

No matter how things may look, you can rebuild your life. It doesn’t matter what storms you might face. It doesn’t matter what obstacles you must overcome; God can make it better. Nehemiah had taken up the task of rebuilding the wall. There were people who ridiculed and criticized the project. There was the threat of people coming to destroy their efforts. Nehemiah knew that the Hand of God was with them. He knew that the God of Heaven would prosper and protect them. They would eventually rebuild the wall, and the people would recommit themselves to God and His Word. As impossible as things look, the first step must be to rise and build. You must get started. The lepers asked each other a question in II Kings chapter seven- “Why are we sitting here until we die”? (v3) You don’t have to be great to start, but you cannot be great until you get started. With God involved, it will be better than it was before.

📖 And I will make you to this people a fortified bronze wall; they will fight against you, but they will not prevail over you, for Iam with you to save and deliver you, says the Lord. And I will deliver you out of the hands of the wicked, and I will redeem you out of the palms of the terrible and ruthless tyrants. —Jeremiah 15:20-21 AMPC

This was the Word of the Lord to Jeremiah, but it can be a word for us today. God can make us a fortified bronze wall against those who choose to fight against us and attempt to stop us. God can save and deliver us when we put our trust in Him. He will deliver us out of the hands of the wicked and out of the palms of the terrible and ruthless tyrants. It may appear that the people are prevailing over us, but we must remember that we walk by faith and not by sight. God is our protector and our shield. He is our Deliverer and our Fortress. 📖 Then Jesus said to His disciples, If anyone desires to be My disciple, let him deny himself [disregard, lose sight of, and forget himself and his own interests] and take up his cross and follow Me [cleave steadfastly to Me, conform wholly to My example in living and, if need be, in dying, also].

For whoever is bent on saving his [temporal] life [his comfort and security here] shall lose it [eternal life]; and whoever loses his life [his comfort and security here] for My sake shall find it [life everlasting].

For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his life [his blessed life in the kingdom of God]? Or what would a man give as an exchange for his [blessed] life [in the kingdom of God]?
—Matthew 16:24-26 AMPC

Jesus makes it very plain. If we are going to follow Him, we will have to disregard ourselves and our own interests. We will have to be willing to die to selfish ambition and to our own dreams and desires that are outside of the will of God. Walking this Chrisitan walk will not always be easy. Jesus told us that if they persecuted Him, they would persecute us. The student is not above his teacher. We must not be in love with this world. We are strangers, pilgrims just passing through. It is okay to enjoy yourself, but our comfort and security cannot be in this natural world. The Bible tells us that we are citizens of heaven, and once we have lived our lives out here on this earth, that is where we will live for eternity. We cannot jeopardize our salvation for the things of this world. What would it benefit us to gain the entire world and lose our soul? If we must choose between the world and Jesus, let’s choose Jesus. We don’t have to chase after the things of this world. Jesus told us that if we would seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, all those things will be added unto us.

📖 Make a joyful shout to the Lord, all you lands! Serve the Lord with gladness; Come before His presence with singing. Know that the Lord, He is God; It is He who has made us, and not we ourselves; We are His people and the sheep of His pasture. Enter into His gates with thanksgiving, And into His courts with praise. Be thankful to Him, and bless His name. For the Lord is good; His mercy is everlasting, And His truth endures to all generations.
—Psalms 100:1-5 NKJV

We serve a good God! He is so good to us that there is only one way to serve Him: with gladness. We should come before His presence with singing because He has redeemed us. He has sent Jesus so that we can have life and have it more abundantly. He is our protector. He is our Healer. He is our Strength. Every good gift and every perfect gift comes from Him. His mercies are new every morning, and when He forgives us of our sins, He forgets them. He is not holding them against us; He has cleansed us from them. There should be joy in our hearts every day because of what God has done for us and for what He is doing in our lives. Even when things aren’t going our way, we know that God will turn it around. He is on our side, and we are the sheep of His pasture. God loves us. We have so much to be grateful for! The Lord is good, and His mercies endure forever.
