Watchdog group reports persecution in Nigeria
Christian watchdog groups are reporting another wave of persecution against Christians in Nigeria. At least 30 people were killed and attacked in a village recently. According to the group International Christian Concern the gunmen entered the village and attacked, killing people and setting several homes on fire. Watchdog groups say this persecution is a form of ethnic cleansing by Muslim Fulani militants. The Trump administration launched attacks against the Islamic state in Nigeria with the support of the country’s government last year. This was in support of Christians in one region. The US has continued to threaten attacks against extremists if they continue to persecute Christians.  

Christian persecution studied in UK poll
The U.S. Religious Liberty Commission is shedding light on one of the United States closest allies. In a report released last year the organization criticizes the United Kingdom, after the group says that nation targeted Christians in various cases. SNBC NEWS has reported several cases in the UK where Christians were arrested, and prosecuted for witnessing the Gospel, preaching in public, praying in front of abortion clinics and refusing to use incorrect gender pronouns. The organization is calling for UK politicians to defend religious freedom in the United Kingdom and advocate for it throughout Europe.  

British citizen pledges to financially support persecuted pastors in UK
One British citizen has announced he will personally help in defending persecuted Christians in the UK. Businessman Samuel Leeds has announced he will pay for the legal defense for street preachers arrested in Great Britian.  Leeds says he was shocked and outraged when he saw the rise in Christians being arrested and persecuted in a Christian nation. The businessman says that Great Britain has developed a double standard against Christians and says that the nation has turned its back on God.  
Leeds pledge to support persecuted street preachers was announced following the arrests of two more preachers in the UK. The two were arrested for preaching on street corners in Bristol and Watford, England.  

SNBC Health Report: the power of the Word of God and its effect on mental health. Dr. W. Lee Warren says he monitored the effects of reading the Word of God and its effect on the human brain. Warren’s research began following the death of his adult son.  The Neuroscientist says he used scripture and meditated constantly during his own healing process. The scientist noted how he later compared the brain and its response to the Word of God. Dr. Warren says he used scripture to literally rewire his brain while grieving a process known as neuroplasticity. He encouraged people to think on scriptures like 2 Corinthians 10:5, Ephesians 4 and Romans 12. Warren also pointed out that the way we think rubs off on other people we come in contact with throughout our lives.

Activists call foul on bill clause expiration
Pro-life activists are calling out lawmakers for a recent costly oversight. Critics are calling out conservative leaders in Congress to allow a bill banning funding to Planned Parenthood to expire. The clause was a part of the Big Beautiful Bill, which was passed last year, but the ten-year ban on funding was later changed to just one year in the Senate. The bill stripped the abortion organization of 800 million dollars in taxpayer dollars. The bill’s expiration now means Planned Parenthood will be able to receive the funding once again. One Republican politician called the bill’s expiration a huge, missed opportunity.  Conservative groups are now raising funds to elect officials that support a permanent ban on funding for Planned Parenthood. 

Christian community unites in protest in India
A government official in India has resigned from office after protests from Christians in that nation.  
The official resigned following protests from Christians and other groups in India. The minister of Education was forced to resign after accusations of corruption.  The protests stem from a new law in the country that heavily monitors foreign aid. Indian officials claim the law is to monitor influence from sources outside of the country. Protestors say the law is being used to target groups, especially Christian organizations and churches. A spokesperson for the Voice of the Martyr, a watchdog group, says this is another way for Hindu nationalists to persecute minority groups. The law would allow the government to seize funding from groups and suspend services provided by any group accused of wrongdoing. Senators here in the U.S. are asking the Trump administration to call out Indian officials for their targeting of the Christian community. 

Jail ministry sees revival behind prison walls
Revival is continuing across the US and a prison in Florida is experiencing a move of God’s spirit. Two churches have combined forces after the sheriff in Walton County; Florida opened its doors to ministry from local churches. The jail ministry according to representatives is designed to minister to the whole man and heal inmates from the inside out. Over 100 inmates ranging from youth in juvenile detention centers to adult prisons have accepted Christ as their Savior and are being encouraged and helped through the program.  Pastor Jonathan King one of the pastor’s involved in the program says the program reflects God’s love and when the church shows God’s love revival is sure to follow.

Watermelons are the undisputed champion of summer fruits. It is extremely popular around the US, especially here in the South.  This fruit is more than just a constant staple at every summer event; it is also a good source of nutrients.  The first noticeable and most well-known is watermelon’s high-water content. PCUSA announces controversial vote
The Presbyterian Church USA has announced support for a controversial measure. The national organization voted to support what they call gender affirming care, voting 441-30 in favor of supporting trans surgeries for all, including children. Critic Virgil Walker commented the vote says the real story is not that the Presbyterian Church supports the measure, but that the church continues to try and bless what God has called sin. Walker continued, saying the church can no longer echo the culture it was sent to reach.

Condolences around the world continue for US Senate member from South Carolina
People across all party lines in the US are offering condolences to the family of Senator Lindsey Graham. Graham, a long-time South Carolina senator, passed last week following what was described as a brief and sudden illness. He was a fierce advocate for the Trump administration, Israel, pro-life causes and the conservative movement. South Carolina governor Henry McMaster appointed Graham’s sister, Darline Graham Nordone to represent South Carolina in the Senate to finish her brother’s term. Nordone was sworn in shortly after her brother’s death. President Trump, Israel’s Prime minister, and Ukraine’s president released statements honoring Graham for over two decades of service to the U.S. through Congress.

ACLJ defends young Christian student against school officials
The American Center for Law and Justice has filed a lawsuit on behalf of a young student in Washington State. The student, who was not identified in the lawsuit, has been the victim of constant ridicule from school representatives. She was scolded by the school for carrying her Bible and handing out tracts to classmates. The girl was also disciplined on three occasions and forced to attend assembly events that compromised her faith. Representatives from the ACLJ criticized school officials for their treatment of the student. The Highline Public School District has not responded to the accusations or the lawsuit, claiming they have not been served with documentation concerning a lawsuit.

The Bible is the most popular book in the world with five to seven billion copies sold throughout history. According to a study by the American Bible Society, reading the Bible has a better effect on your health than anything else. Researchers followed test subjects that exercised, socialized, volunteered, prayed and read the Bible. The study group also followed subjects that simply read the Bible. Researchers found the Bible had a better effect on stress, anxiety, loneliness and hope. John Plake of the American Bible Society says the study confirms that out of all the things people do to remain healthy, reading the Bible is the most important of all these daily habits. The organization has researched the effects of the Bible and health since 2020.

Methodist organization cuts ties with seminary school
A seminary school relationship with the United Methodist Church has officially ended. The Asbury Theological Seminary School has been officially rejected by the UMC because of the school’s stance against homosexuality and same-sex marriage. The UMC recently announced the separation; the school’s president released a statement in response. Dr. David F. Watson said in part, that school officials hoped for a different outcome, but remain steadfast in continuing to stand with Biblical principles and the union of one man and one woman, which is sanctioned by God. If the name of the school sounds familiar Asbury Theological Seminary School is located directly across from Asbury University.  The school in Kentucky was part of a revival that started on the school’s campus in 2023 and continues to spread across schools and universities around the U.S. The seminary school also hosted thousands of visitors and services during the revival’s start in 2023.  

State Attorney agrees to terms in lawsuit with Pro-life centers
The state of Delaware has agreed to terms for a case involving pro-life centers in that state. Delaware officials previously attempted to enforce controversial rules for the pro-life centers in the state. State officials attempted to require all pregnancy centers to post disclaimers in their facilities. The posters would require all facilities to advise there was no licensed medical provider available at each facility. Pro-life centers involved in filing a legal motion to fight against the law called in unconstitutional.   Following the legal case, the Delaware state attorney agreed to halt the enforcement of the law and pay all attorney fees for the resource centers.  Attorneys for the pro-life centers praised the decision made in favor of their clients.  

Pastor released from China
A well-known pastor in China is now back in the U.S. after being released from prison. Pastor Ezra Jin was released and arrived back in the U.S. on July 4th. The pastor was released after being imprisoned since October of last year. The pastor is the founder of Zion Church. The church, founded in 2007, was banned by the Chinese government in 2018. Pastor Jin created an underground house church because of the ban. The church eventually grew to about 10 thousand members, according to reports. Pastor Jin was arrested following China’s crackdown on underground churches. Jin and 17 pastors were charged by the government with illegally using information networks. The charge carried a three-year sentence in prison. Jin’s family reached out the Trump administration and members of Congress last year.  The president later brought up the matter to China’s leader in May of this year leading to the release. Those commenting on the case believe the release of the pastor is a gesture of goodwill between the two nations, and the release of Pastor Jin on the U.S.’s anniversary of Independence Day was also done on purpose.

Researchers are discovering that this popular and frequently used root vegetable may have more benefits than most people realize. Researchers studied this vegetable as part of an experiment involving 160-thousand adults. The study found subjects that preferred onions had a reduced risk of higher blood pressure and type 2 diabetes. The study also found that the onion was more like a superfood providing many health benefits. It contains nutrients that promote healthy tissue, immune health, and gut health. Onions are also rich in antioxidants, which reduces inflammation.  The vegetable contains four different nutrients, is 98 percent water, fiber and small amounts of protein and healthy fats. Because this vegetable is inexpensive and versatile, researchers advise adding it to your daily food intake as a simple method to receive its health benefits.

Nation’s highest court rules in favor of women’s sports

The US Supreme Court ruled in favor of women’s sports. The nation’s highest court ruled 6-3 in favor of laws in West Virginia and Idaho. Laws in both states require athletes to compete with their biological gender. The ruling according to critics is anti-trans and a violation of Title IX. Supporters of the law, including West Virginia’s Attorney General, call the law common sense. J.B. McCuskey says these laws are common sense and will continue to allow fairness in competition.  25 other states have similar laws concerning women’s sports; the court’s decision is expected to affect future legal challenges with other state laws. 

Student settles with school district
Students here in Mecklenburg County have settled with the school district. The student, who was identified in court documents at G.S., painted a tribute to Christian activist Charlie Kirk following his assassination.  
The student painted the tribute on the spirit rock “Live Like Kirk John 11:25 which reads Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live.” The Charlotte-Mecklenburg school district claimed the students did not get permission and called it an act of vandalism. Following the accusation, one of the students’ parents filed a federal lawsuit against the school district. Attorneys from Alliance defending freedom represented the student. They refuted claims that the students did not get permission to paint the rock and called out the school officials for their clear bias. The school district settled the case for 95 thousand dollars. They apologized and created a new student policy concerning freedom of speech.   

Family fights for return of children
A Christian family’s fight to have their children returned has now turned into a dispute between two nations. The Samson family, who live in Sweden are Romanian in nationality. The incident started when one of the family’s oldest children lied to school officials about being abused by her parents. Sweden’s social services quickly took the two oldest children and have refused to return them to their parents. The parents say even after the child confessed that she lied, the government has refused to return them and even expressed putting the children up for adoption. The Romanian Senate voted unanimously for Swedish officials to return the children to their parents. Protestors have also taken to the streets in support of the family. The Swedish national board of health and welfare released a statement saying in part they are investigating and will do a thorough investigation to make the best decision for the children.

According to recent studies, there may be a connection between leafy green vegetables and healthier lungs. Researchers believe the link is vitamins K 1& 2, which are found in vegetables such as spinach, kale, and broccoli. These vitamins help in the body with blood clotting and according to research, so much more. Vitamin K 2 also assists in bone health.  Researchers in Australia found a diet rich leafy greens helped patients who had COPD and asthma. The researchers found a diet higher in greens helps with better lung function and lower rates of COPD. One researcher says he believes the vitamins found in leafy greens help activate protein, which allows the lung tissue more flexibility and less damage. Vitamins K 1& 2 can also be found in mustard greens, collard greens and Swiss chard.
