Day 123

Genesis 9:4 Amplified Version

"But you shall not eat flesh with the life of it, which is its blood. "

After the flood, God blessed Noah when he left the ark and gave him permission to eat any animal or plant he desired. However, he forbade him to eat meat with blood in it. He told him the life of the flesh was the blood.

This can help us understand why Jesus said in  John 6:54, "Whoso eateth My flesh, and drinketh My blood, hath eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day." To eat His flesh and drink His blood was to partake of His life. Since He  had eternal life in Him, we automatically have eternal life in us by receiving His blood.

There is no eternal life outside the blood sacrifice of Jesus Christ. We must receive His blood by faith, or be without life. That is why nobody else could have served as a mediator between God and man. No other man could be the way to God. Buddha, Muhammed, Confucius and all the others had human blood with natural life. Jesus, the Son of God, was the  only living human who had blood containing eternal life - the life of God.

When we partake of communion, we celebrate the eternal life received by the blood of Christ. May we have a greater appreciation for the blood represented by the cup.

I have received the body and blood of Jesus, by faith. I have eternal life in me.
