📖 The serpent was the craftiest of all the creatures the Lord God had made. So the serpent came to the woman. “Really?” he asked. “None of the fruit in the garden? God says you mustn’t eat any of it?”
“Of course we may eat it,” the woman told him. “It’s only the fruit from the tree at the center of the garden that we are not to eat. God says we mustn’t eat it or even touch it, or we will die.”
“That’s a lie!” the serpent hissed. “You’ll not die! God knows very well that the instant you eat it you will become like him, for your eyes will be opened—you will be able to distinguish good from evil!”
The woman was convinced. How lovely and fresh looking it was! And it would make her so wise! So she ate some of the fruit and gave some to her husband, and he ate it too.
—Genesis 3:1-6 The Living Bible
Man's fall took place in the Garden of Eden. Eve allowed Satan (through the serpent) to get her to question the veracity of God's Word. The fall could not have taken place without doubt and unbelief in God and His Word. The key to our success is absolute trust in God and His Word. Satan wants to remove that key from our lives. He wants you to focus on the sense realm. He wants you to depend on your senses. You can never walk in pure faith when you are questioning God and His integrity. The Word is the only thing that will defeat Satan. The sword of the Spirit is the Word of God. It is the weapon Jesus used when Satan tried to tempt Him in the wilderness. It is the shield of faith that quenches all the fiery darts of the wicked one, and faith comes by hearing the Word of God. Don't allow the enemy to cause you to question your answer. God's Word is our answer, and when we stand on and trust in it, we will always come out on top. The Word of God is what guarantees our victory. We will never be put to shame when we put our trust in God and His Word.
