đź“– Sow for yourselves according to righteousness (uprightness and right standing with God); reap according to mercy and loving-kindness. Break up your uncultivated ground, for it is time to seek the Lord, to inquire for and of Him, and to require His favor, till He comes and teaches you righteousness and rains His righteous gift of salvation upon you.
You have plowed and plotted wickedness, you have reaped the [willful] injustice [of oppressors], you have eaten the fruit of lies. Because you have trusted in your [own] way and your chariots, in the multitude of your mighty men,
Therefore shall a tumult arise against your people and all your fortresses shall be wasted and destroyed, as Shalmaneser wasted and destroyed Beth-arbel on the day of battle; the mother was dashed in pieces with her children.
So shall it be done to you at [idolatrous] Bethel because of your great wickedness; at daybreak shall the king of Israel be utterly cut off.
—Hosea 10:12-15 AMPC
Seeking the Lord doesn’t cost; it pays. It is during those times of seeking that we learn from Him. Seeking God causes a transformation to take place. It is where we break up our uncultivated ground and learn more about our righteousness and the gift of salvation. When we don’tspend time with the Lord by seeking His Face, we become susceptible to making mistakes. When we don’t seek His will or His way, we tend to lean to our own understanding. We tend to depend on our resources, our ways, and our intellect. Relying on ourselves is a quick way to destruction and ruin. God does not want that for our lives. He desires us to prosper and be in health even as our soul prospers (3 John 2). The Bible tells us to, “trust in the Lord with all of our hearts and lean not to our own understanding” (Proverbs 3:5). In all our ways, we are to acknowledge Him, and He will direct our paths (Proverbs 3:6). When we direct our paths, we get into trouble, and then we want God to bail us out. Seeking the Lord would have kept us out of trouble. God’s way is the best way. His ways are higher than our ways and His thoughts are higher than our thoughts.
