Jesus did not die on the cross for us to act like mere men. Jesus came so that we could live a supernatural life. He came so that we could live above the beggarly elements of this life. We don’t have to act like mere men. We can love the unlovable. We can show kindness to our enemies. We can overlook the shortcomings of people. We don’t have to respond the way the world responds. We can react in a different manner. When we respond in love, that is what will set us apart. Anyone can get into strife and division; anyone can be a mere man. God is calling us to a higher level. He is calling us to be the light of the world. He is calling us to be the salt of the earth. He is calling us to be a city that is set on a hill.
