π That is why I would remind you to stir up (rekindle the embers of, fan the flame of, and keep burning) the [gracious] gift of God, [the inner fire] that is in you by means of the laying on of my hands [with those of the elders at your ordination]. β―2 Timothy 1:6 AMPC
In this verse, Paul was telling Timothy to stir up the gift of God that had been placed on the inside of him. There was a need for Timothy to stir the gift up so that he could begin to see those impartations in his ministry. We have gifts that God has placed on the inside of us as well so we in turn must stir up the gift. In 1 Cor 14:2 Paul talks about praying in the Holy Spirit and that is one of the ways we can stir up the gift. As we are communicating directly to God through tongues, we are fanning that inner flame. As we continue to fan the flame, we will start to see manifestations of those gifts that God has placed on the inside of us. If we donβt stir up these gifts, then they will lie dormant. The world needs our gifts. So let us please God by stirring up the gift!
