DAILY DEVOTIONAL | June 25th

📖 "In those days King Hezekiah of Judah became ill and was at the point of death. And Isaiah the prophet, the son of Amoz, came to him and said, Thus says the Lord: Set your house in order, for you shall die and not live. Then Hezekiah turned his face to the wall and prayed to the Lord And said, Remember [earnestly] now, O Lord, I beseech You, how I have walked before You in faithfulness and in truth, with a whole heart [absolutely devoted to You], and have done what is good in Your sight. And Hezekiah wept bitterly. Then came the word of the Lord to Isaiah, saying, Go, and say to Hezekiah, Thus says the Lord, the God of David your father: I have heard your prayer, I have seen your tears; behold, I will [a]add to your life fifteen years.” -Isaiah 38:1-5 Amplified Bible Classic Edition

It wasn’t the will of God for Hezekiah to die prematurely. If it was the will of God for Hezekiah to die, He would have told Hezekiah that it was His will for Him to die, and there would have been nothing he could do to stop it. Hezekiah turned his face to the wall and sought the Lord. He reminded God of his faithfulness and devotion to Him and reminded Him that He had done what was right in His sight. This caused God to intervene in Hezekiah’s situation, and He added fifteen more years to His life. God also healed what would have caused Hezekiah to die prematurely. When we receive a bad report, we don’t have to receive it. We can go to God, receive His wisdom or simply stand on His Word, and change that negative report. God is on our side. God is never our problem; He is always our answer. No matter what we face in life, God can turn it around.

📖 "Till I come, devote yourself to [public and private] reading, to exhortation (preaching and personal appeals), and to teaching and instilling doctrine. Do not neglect the gift which is in you, [that special inward endowment] which was directly imparted to you [by the Holy Spirit] by prophetic utterance when the elders laid their hands upon you [at your ordination]. Practice and cultivate and meditate upon these duties; throw yourself wholly into them [as your ministry], so that your progress may be evident to everybody.” -I Timothy 4:13-15 Amplified Bible Classic Edition

As believers, we should devote ourselves to reading and studying the Word of God. The Word is the key to our success in this life. Another key is to cultivate and develop the giftings and callings that are on the inside of us. We are not to neglect them. The gifts are what will bring us before great men and cause us to fulfill the purpose that God preordained for us to walk in. We are to throw ourselves wholly into them so that our progress will be evident to the rest of the world. We must be diligent in our business. We must be diligent in the Word. We must be diligent to whatever God has called us to. It is the prerequisite to our becoming more and more. It is how we go from glory to glory. It is how we eventually get to the place where God says, “Well done thou good and faithful servant”!

📖 "And indeed you already are [extending and displaying your love] to all the brethren throughout Macedonia. But we beseech and earnestly exhort you, brethren, that you excel [in this matter] more and more, To make it your ambition and definitely endeavor to live quietly and peacefully, to mind your own affairs, and to work with your hands, as we charged you, So that you may bear yourselves becomingly and be correct and honorable and command the respect of the outside world, being dependent on nobody [self-supporting] and having need of nothing." -I Thessalonians 4:10-12 Amplified Bible Classic Edition

As believers, it is important for us to be a good example to both the believer and the unbeliever. One way we can do that is by being dependent on God. As we operate in sowing and reaping, giving and receiving, we can get to a place where we are self-supporting. God can bring us to a place where we do not have to borrow from any financial institution or any other person. We can get to a place where the blessings of God will come upon us and overtake us as we diligently seek Him. This will not only command the respect of the outside world, but it will also cause an attraction from the world so that they can know how they can get to the same place. This is just another way for us to be the light of the world, the salt of the earth and a city set on a hill that cannot be hidden.

📖 "Yet the Lord is faithful, and He will strengthen [you] and set you on a firm foundation and guard you from the evil [one]." -2 Thessalonians 3:3 Amplified Bible Classic Edition

God is faithful. He is faithful when times are good and when times appear to not be so good. When things are challenging in our lives, we can rely on God. He will help us. He will strengthen us. When we feel like we can’t go any further, God will strengthen us. When we want to quit, God will strengthen us. God will supply whatever you need. We overcome because we have the Greater One on the inside of us. He will set us on a firm foundation and will guard us from the evil one. God is our sufficiency and our ability. He is faithful not only to His Word, but He is also faithful to us. We serve a great God.

📖 "And Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the good news (the Gospel) of the kingdom and curing all kinds of disease and every weakness and infirmity. When He saw the throngs, He was moved with pity and sympathy for them, because they were bewildered (harassed and distressed and dejected and helpless), like sheep without a shepherd. Then He said to His disciples, The harvest is indeed plentiful, but the laborers are few. So pray to the Lord of the harvest to force out and thrust laborers into His harvest.” -Matthew 9:35-38 Amplified Bible Classic Edition

Jesus was all about His Father’s business when He was here on earth. He went about teaching, preaching, and healing. Despite His efforts, Jesus still recognized that He could not do it alone. Later, He commissioned His twelve disciples and seventy others to go out and do the same thing that He was doing. Jesus was moved because He saw the state of the people. Despite all He was doing, so many more people were distressed, dejected, and helpless. Things have not changed. The same devil that harassed and oppressed back then is still doing it today. The harvest is still plentiful, but unfortunately, the laborers are still few. We must step up as believers. We must receive the ministry of reconciliation that has been given to us. We must continue the work of Jesus and go about teaching, preaching, and healing. We must go out and reap the harvest of souls that are ready to receive Jesus. The harvest is indeed plentiful, but the laborers are few.

📖 "Ask the Lord, who makes storm clouds, to give rain at the right time for the spring rains, and he will provide showers of rain, and there will be crops in the field for everyone." -Zechariah 10:1 Evangelical Heritage Version

God desires to answer our prayers. The Word of God tells us that we have not because we do not ask (James 4:2). Jesus tells us to ask because when we do, we will receive (Matthew 7:7-8). God is not holding back on us, but many fail to receive because they fail to ask. There are believers who have not renewed their minds to the promises of God. Because of that, when a need arises in their lives, they try to figure out how they can make it happen instead of looking to God. God does not want us depending on ourselves. He does not want us to depend on anyone or anything but Him. We must simply ask. God is a good Father; every good Father wants to do good things for His children. God is not holding out on us. Sometimes, He is simply waiting on a request. Let us not disappoint Him. He is more than capable of handling your request.

📖 "I am the Lord thy God, which brought thee out of the land of Egypt: open thy mouth wide, and I will fill it." -Psalm 81:10 Amplified Bible Classic Edition

Sometimes if we are not careful, we can put limitations on God. We can get to a point where we won’t make a request to God because we can’t see how He will meet that need. God was telling His people in this verse that no matter how wide they opened their mouths, He would fill it. It was His way of saying I can meet your need no matter how large it may appear. God will not only meet the need, but He will fill it to the full. That sounds like the Amplified Version of Philippians 4:19. We must make sure that we keep the limits off of God. He can handle whatever need we may have. No matter how wide you open your mouth, He can fill it.

📖 "Do not let your hearts be troubled (distressed, agitated). You believe in and adhere to and trust in and rely on God; believe in and adhere to and trust in and rely also on Me." -John 14:1 Amplified Bible Classic Edition

As believers, we should be walking in peace on a daily basis. Jesus would not tell us to do something if we weren’t capable of doing it. We must see to it that our hearts are not troubled. No matter what we are facing in life, we can face it knowing we win because we are trusting and relying on God. It is our responsibility not to allow ourselves to be distressed or agitated. It is our responsibility to keep our eyes on the Word of God. We get distressed when our eyes are on the wrong thing. We get agitated when we are occupied with our circumstances instead of what the Word of God says. God will keep us in perfect peace when we keep our minds stayed on Him (Isaiah 26:3). We can have peace in this troubled world. We can have joy in the middle of the storm. If we couldn’t, Jesus wouldn’t have told us to do it. We can do it. We can do all things through Christ who strengthens us.

📖 "Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers [do not make mismated alliances with them or come under a different yoke with them, inconsistent with your faith]. For what partnership have right living and right standing with God with iniquity and lawlessness? Or how can light have fellowship with darkness? What harmony can there be between Christ and Belial [the devil]? Or what has a believer in common with an unbeliever? What agreement [can there be between] a temple of God and idols? For we are the temple of the living God; even as God said, I will dwell in and with and among them and will walk in and with and among them, and I will be their God, and they shall be My people. So, come out from among [unbelievers], and separate (sever) yourselves from them, says the Lord, and touch not [any] unclean thing; then I will receive you kindly and treat you with favor, And I will be a Father to you, and you shall be My sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty. -2 Corinthians 6:14-18 Amplified Bible Classic Edition

God wants there to be a separation between the world and His people. We are to be the light of the world. We are the salt of the earth. The Blessing of God manifesting in our lives is the calling card to the world. It should draw the world to us because we are experiencing the goodness of God, despite all the ills that are taking place in the world. God wants to pour out His goodness on His sons and daughters. One way to make that happen is to separate ourselves from the world. We can be in this world, but we don’t have to be of the world. We don’t have to talk like the world, and we don’t have to have the world’s mentality. When Jesus was on the earth, He did not associate with the devil or His works. He set the people free from the oppression of the enemy. We must be like Jesus. The devil had nothing in Him, and the enemy must not have anything in us. We are the temple of the living God. He is living in us and walking in us. We are His ambassadors, and we should look and act like it every day of our lives.

📖 "When He had stopped speaking, He said to Simon (Peter), Put out into the deep [water], and lower your nets for a haul. And Simon (Peter) answered, Master, we toiled all night [exhaustingly] and caught nothing [in our nets]. But on the ground of Your word, I will lower the nets [again]. And when they had done this, they caught a great number of fish; and as their nets were [at the point of] breaking, They signaled to their partners in the other boat to come and take hold with them. And they came and filled both the boats, so that they began to sink. But when Simon Peter saw this, he fell down at Jesus’ knees, saying, Depart from me, for I am a sinful man, O Lord. For he was gripped with bewildering amazement [allied to terror], and all who were with him, at the haul of fish which they had made" -Luke 5:4-9 Amplified Bible Classic Edition

It's amazing what happens when we obey God. Peter toiled all night long. Peter had done all that he knew to do. In his own efforts and in his own strength, he was unsuccessful. However, when he acted on the words of Jesus, the miraculous took place. When he ceased operating from his intellect and simply walked in obedience, abundance and increase took place. There is a time to use your intellect, but there is also a time when you must throw that out of the window. Sometimes God may ask you to do something that doesn’t make sense to your natural mind, but out of respect to God, we ought to obey. God will amaze us if we let Him. Our obedience to His Word will open the door to make the miraculous a normal occurrence in our lives.

📖 "But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a dedicated nation, [God's] own purchased, special people, that you may set forth the wonderful deeds and display the virtues and perfections of Him Who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light. [10] Once you were not a people [at all], but now you are God's people; once you were unpitied, but now you are pitied and have received mercy.” -1 Peter 2:9-10 AMPC

God doesn't see us as insignificant. He does not see us as mediocre people. We are a chosen race and God's own special people. We are special because He purchased us by the blood of the Lamb. He sees us as royalty. He chose us because He loves us. It is because of His mercy that we are not consumed. When Adam fell, all of mankind fell. God could have left us in a fallen state, but His love for us wouldn't allow it. Remember you are special. You're not special because of what you have done. You are special because of what He has done. Oh, how He loves you and me.

📖 "Now in the synagogue there was a man who was possessed by the foul spirit of a demon; and he cried out with a loud (deep, terrible) cry, Ah, let us alone! What have You to do with us [What have we in common], Jesus of Nazareth? Have You come to destroy us? I know Who You are—the Holy One of God! But Jesus rebuked him, saying, Be silent (muzzled, gagged), and come out of him! And when the demon had thrown the man down in their midst, he came out of him without injuring him in any possible way. And they were all amazed and said to one another, What kind of talk is this? For with authority and power He commands the foul spirits and they come out!" Luke 4:33-36 Amplified Bible Classic Edition

Jesus is our example. He never feared the devil. He never feared any demon. Jesus knew who He was, and He understood what belonged to Him. He walked in and spoke with authority. He knew that the devil was subject to Him. We have been delegated the same authority, and God expects us to walk in the same authority. He does not expect us to run from the devil, the devil is supposed to run from us. He expects us to experience the same results that Jesus did when He was on the earth. We are in the same family as Jesus. We have the same Father. We have the same authority. We should expect the same victory every time.

📖 "A faithful man shall abound with blessings: but he that maketh haste to be rich shall not be innocent." -Proverbs 28:20 King James Version

There is a Scripture that ask, “a faithful man, who can find?” It’s hard to find faithful people, especially in today’s world. People don’t stay at jobs like they used to. People don’t stay at one church like they once did. People just aren’t as faithful as they once were. God says the faithful shall abound with blessings. The faithful ones are the committed ones, the ones you can always count on. The faithful are consistent. They are consistent in their attendance, their giving, and their effort. How can those types of people not be blessed? One should expect to flourish when they have a history of faithfulness to any organization. If man will take care of faithful, committed people, how much more would our Heavenly Father?

📖 "Oh, the joys of those who do not follow evil men’s advice, who do not hang around with sinners, scoffing at the things of God. But they delight in doing everything God wants them to, and day and night are always meditating on his laws and thinking about ways to follow him more closely. They are like trees along a riverbank bearing luscious fruit each season without fail. Their leaves shall never wither, and all they do shall prosper. But for sinners, what a different story! They blow away like chaff before the wind. They are not safe on Judgment Day; they shall not stand among the godly. For the Lord watches over all the plans and paths of godly men, but the paths of the godless lead to doom.” -Psalm 1 The Living Bible

The godly and the ungodly should not experience the same outcome in life. The plans of the godly will succeed if they align with God's will. The godly should prosper when they delight in doing everything that God wants them to do. When you constantly think about how to get closer to God, it puts you in a position to receive blessings from the Lord. He is a rewarder of them that diligently seek Him (Hebrews 11:6). Constantly thinking about the laws of God will cause you to be a doer of His Word eventually, and the doer of His Word is blessed (James 1:25). The Word keeps us stable in unstable times. It causes us to prosper when the world is falling apart. It causes us to have a different outcome than the wicked. We have hope because we have a God. God and His Word are one.

📖 "Remember the former things of old, For I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is none like Me, Declaring the end from the beginning, And from ancient times things that are not yet done, Saying, ‘My counsel shall stand, And I will do all My pleasure,' Calling a ravenous bird from the east, the man that executeth my counsel from a far country: yea, I have spoken it, I will also bring it to pass; I have purposed it, I will also do it." -Isaiah 46:9-11 King James Version

There are times in our lives when we question whether or not God can get us out of the situation that we are in. We can sometimes question His ability because of how complex the situation appears, and we know that it is too much for us to handle. That is the time to remember our past experiences with God. It's the time to rehearse the victories that we have experienced in the past. There is a time to remember the former things, and there is a time to forget them. It is always a good time to remember how God has brought us through. As we are standing on His Word, we must not forget that if He spoke it, He will bring it to pass. If He has purposed it, we know that He will do it. Nothing is too difficult for our God.

📖 "If you return to the Almighty, you will be built up; You will remove iniquity far from your tents. Then you will lay your gold in the dust, And the gold of Ophir among the stones of the brooks. Yes, the Almighty will be your gold And your precious silver; For then you will have your delight in the Almighty, And lift up your face to God. You will make your prayer to Him, He will hear you, And you will pay your vows. You will also declare a thing, And it will be established for you; So light will shine on your ways." -Job 22:23-28 New King James Version

Sometimes when we mess up, we run away from God. That is never a smart move. When we mess up, we should run TO God. God is our answer. God is the source of our strength and our life. When we turn from iniquity and return to God, we can expect there to be a turnaround in our lives. We can look forward to restoration. We can expect God’s favor and His blessings to come upon us and overtake us. We can exercise our authority without feelings of guilt and condemnation. We can go to God without shame in our lives and expect to be in an overall better place, when we return to our first love. God is so merciful, and He is so good!

📖 "And [the angel] said to me, O Daniel, you greatly beloved man, understand the words that I speak to you and stand upright, for to you I am now sent. And while he was saying this word to me, I stood up trembling. Then he said to me, Fear not, Daniel, for from the first day that you set your mind and heart to understand and to humble yourself before your God, your words were heard, and I have come as a consequence of [and in response to] your words.” -Daniel 10:11-12 Amplified Bible Classic Edition

God hears us when we pray to Him. He desires to fellowship with us and to take care of things that concern us. Daniel had been praying for twenty-one days and finally, an angel appeared and let him know that warfare had taken place, and it hindered the answer from getting to him. The answer was on its way from the first day that he had prayed. We must be patient when it comes to receiving from God. We may not always know what the holdup is, but what we do know is that God is faithful to His Word. We do know that God is watching over His Word to perform it. Having done all to stand, we stand. We must continue to speak the right words and hold fast to our confession of faith. The answer may not come when we want it to, but we know it's coming. Don’t give up! God will come through.

📖 "This is what the Lord says: Prisoners will be freed from mighty men. Loot will be taken away from tyrants. I will fight your enemies, and I will save your children" -Isaiah 49:25 God’s Word

God will deal with those who come against us. He will fight for us. He will never leave us nor forsake us (Hebrews 13:5). He is our Helper and the strength of our lives. He wants to be a part of every area of our lives, even our children. Sometimes children that were raised in Christian homes can get off track. Sometimes they may backslide. The good news is that the Spirit of God can get a hold of them. The Spirit of God will save our children when we cast the care of them over to the Lord. When the children are in the home, we have more control of what they can do for the most part. Once they are living on their own, we must trust God and commit them to Him. Things seem to work out better when they are in His hands than when they are in ours. God knows what to do even when we don’t.

When you know that God has told you to do something, and you are obedient to whatever it is He has asked you to do, you can expect the God of Heaven to prosper you. When we are obedient to the Word of God and living a life that is pleasing unto Him, God promises to bless the works of our hands (Deut. 28: 8). The Lord takes pleasure in our prosperity (Psalm 35:27), and it makes Him look good when we are excelling. It makes Him look good when we are the head and not the tail, above only and not beneath. 📖 “The sky and the earth (the universe, the world) will pass away, but My words will not pass away. But take heed to yourselves and be on your guard, lest your hearts be overburdened and depressed (weighed down) with the giddiness and headache and nausea of self-indulgence, drunkenness, and worldly worries and cares pertaining to [the business of] this life, and [lest] that day come upon you suddenly like a trap or a noose; For it will come upon all who live upon the face of the entire earth. Keep awake then and watch at all times [be discreet, attentive, and ready], praying that you may have the full strength and ability and be accounted worthy to escape all these things [taken together] that will take place, and to stand in the presence of the Son of Man.” -Luke 21:33-36 Amplified Bible Classic Edition

Jesus is giving us a warning that should cause every believer to be sober about the times we are living in. All of us have the potential to allow our hearts to be overburdened with the cares of this life. If we aren’t careful, we can lose sight of the things that are important and find ourselves in a backslidden condition. We must stay prayed up. We must be alert and attentive. We cannot allow the things of this world to weigh us down to the point that we miss heaven. Prayer is fellowshipping with our Heavenly Father. As we are consistent in our fellowship with Him, it helps us to stay focused and keep the proper perspective on things. It allows us to continue to set our eyes on things that are above. We must continue to seek first the kingdom of God and be about our Father’s business. As we do those things, it will help to keep things in perspective. It will keep us from becoming so earthly minded, that we’re no heavenly good. We must keep our eyes on God.
