DAILY DEVOTIONAL | January 11th

📖 Let this same attitude and purpose and [humble] mind be in you which was in Christ Jesus: [Let Him be your example in humility:] Who, although being essentially one with God and in the form of God [possessing the fullness of the attributes which make God God], did not think this equality with God was a thing to be eagerly grasped or retained, But stripped Himself [of all privileges and [rightful dignity], so as to assume the guise of a servant (slave), in that He became like men and was born a human being. And after He had appeared in human form, He abased and humbled Himself [still further] and carried His obedience to the extreme of death, even the death of the cross!” -Philippians 2:5-8 Amplified Bible Classic Edition

How much does God love you? How much does heaven value you? God sent Jesus to the earth to die for humanity. Jesus not only came to die for humanity, but He also emptied Himself of all the attributes that made Him God. He allowed Himself to become tired. He allowed Himself to experience what it feels like to feel hunger. He allowed Himself to bleed and to feel pain. He lived like a man. He became human so that we could live on a higher level. We are not mere men. We are made in His class. Jesus humbled Himself so that we can become more. He abased Himself so that we can experience life and have it more abundantly. Jesus did not come to the earth for Himself, He came down for us! He came down so that we could come up. He experienced death so that we could experience life, the God kind of life. Let us show our appreciation for the sacrifice that Jesus made for us. Let's never take what He did for granted. If Jesus can humble Himself, we can humble ourselves. Afterall, we are who we are by His grace.

📖 "God is faithful (reliable, trustworthy, and therefore ever true to His promise, and He can be depended on); by Him you were called into companionship and participation with His Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.” -I Corinthians 1:9 Amplified Bible Classic Edition

God is faithful to His Word. It is impossible for Him to lie. It is a divine truth that He cannot lie. God’s Word is the only means we have of trusting Him. We cannot see God nor can we touch Him. We can read God’s Word, and we can trust Him. In fact, trusting God’s Word is like trusting God Himself. When we choose to believe God’s Word, it causes a dependency on Him just like you would depend on the word of a man or woman. We trust man daily. We trust the bank. We trust our supervisors. We trust the doctor. Unfortunately, sometimes we tend to trust everyone and everything except God when he is more dependable than man. He is more faithful than any man. We must get to a place where we can put more trust in what we read in God’s Word, than what we hear from the words of a man. Man may let you down, but God will not. He is reliable, trustworthy, and ever true to His promise, and He can be depended on.

📖 "Every good thing given and every perfect gift is from above; it comes down from the Father of lights [the Creator and Sustainer of the heavens], in whom there is no variation [no rising or setting] or shadow cast by His turning [for He is perfect and never changes].” -James 1:17 Amplified Bible

God is a good God. He is only capable of doing good. Jesus tells us that the thief (the devil) comes to steal, kill, and destroy. If something has been stolen from you or destruction has taken place in your life, you can trust and believe that it did not come from God. ONLY good things come from God. The late Oral Roberts once stated that, “There is nothing good in the devil, and there is nothing bad in God”. Everything that is good in our lives came from God, and He wants our lives to reflect His goodness towards us. When He approached Abram, He told him that He would bless Him. That was one of the first things He said to Abram, and God honored His Word to him. The devil even commented to God that Job only served Him because He had blessed the works of his hands (Job 1:10). As we walk with God, we should expect our lives to get better. We should expect nothing but good, because that is all that is in God. He is perfect and never changes.

📖 "My son, attend to my words; consent and submit to my sayings. Let them not depart from your sight; keep them in the center of your heart. For they are life to those who find them, healing and health to all their flesh. Keep and guard your heart with all vigilance and above all that you guard, for out of it flow the springs of life.” -Proverbs 4:20-23 Amplified Bible Classic Edition

We must endeavor to keep our eyes on God’s Word if we are going to walk the faith walk that God has instructed us to walk. We are faith people, and faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God. As we put the Word of God in our hearts and keep it there, the Word will produce. The Word will produce what it promises. The Word will bring healing, peace, prosperity, provision, and anything else we will need in this life. We must protect our hearts from doubt and unbelief. Those things will choke the Word and keep it from producing in our lives. As we stay diligent in the protecting of our hearts, we will see the results that the Word of God promises. God’s Word always works.

📖 "I will bless the Lord at all times: his praise shall continually be in my mouth.” -Psalm 34:1 King James Version

We are to always bless the Lord. When things are going well, we bless the Lord. When things aren’t so good, we bless the Lord. His praise should continually be in our mouths because praise stills the enemy. Praise causes the enemy to leave because the devil cannot stand praise. God on the other hand inhabits the praises of His people. Praise ushers in the presence of the Lord. We should desire the manifested presence of God at all times. Praise is what will cause that to take place. We may not like everything that occurs in our lives, but we can always praise God because He can change whatever circumstance we may be facing. Praise will usher in His presence and stop the devil from wreaking havoc in our lives.

📖 "Jesus said to them, “Isn’t this the reason you are wrong, because you don’t know either the scriptures or God’s power?” -Mark 12:24 Common English Bible

Sometimes believers can have a wrong theology. They may think that healing went out with the apostles. Some think that God wants them poor because money is the root of all evil. They don’t even know that it is the love of money that is the root of all evil (I Timothy 6:10). These mistakes are made because they have no knowledge of the Word of God. God wants us healed (III John 2, I Peter 2:24, Isaiah 53:5). God wants us to prosper (III John 2, Psalm 35:27, Deuteronomy 8:18). God’s thoughts towards us are only good (Jeremiah 29:11). We must have a solid foundation in the Word of God; it takes studying and meditating on the Word of God day and night. As we become established and knowledgeable of the Word of God, we will then become acquainted with the power of God. God acts on His Word, and He is watching over His Word to perform it. Let us not stay ignorant of the Word of God. God’s people are destroyed because of a lack of knowledge (Hosea 4:6).

📖 "But on that day I will separate and set apart the land of Goshen, where My people are living, so that no swarms of insects will be there, so that you may know [without any doubt] and acknowledge that I, the Lord, am in the midst of the earth. I will put a division (distinction) between My people and your people. By tomorrow this sign shall be in evidence." -Exodus 8:22-23 Amplified Bible

We have been translated out of the domain of darkness, and we have been translated into the kingdom of God. God will take care of those who are inside of His kingdom. He will take care of His own. God set a distinction between the Israelites and the Egyptians. The chaos and the damage that was taking place in Egypt was not taking place in Goshen. There may be chaos and destruction taking place in the world, but it doesn’t have to affect us. We are in the Kingdom. Satan is the god (ruler) of this world. This is why the world is in the shape that it is in. However, our Heavenly Father desires to shield us from what is going on in the world. We can have prosperity in a famine. We can walk in divine health in the middle of a “flu season”. We can have peace while the rest of the world is nervous and troubled about tomorrow. We may be in this world, but we are not of it. We function in another realm; we function in the Kingdom of God.

📖 "And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask anything according to his will, he heareth us: And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him.” -I John 5:14-15 KJV

Isn’t this a wonderful Scripture? To know that if we ask anything according to the will of God (the Word of God), we can know that God not only hears us, but we know that we have the very thing that we are asking for. 2 Peter 1:4, tells us that God “has given us all things that pertain to life and godliness”. Anything that you have need of pertains to life and there is a promise in the Word that covers your situation. We must study the Word, and be knowledgeable of the Word in order to know what God has said about the matter. One thing that we can count on is that the promises of God in Him are yes and amen (2 Corinthians 1:20). God has already said yes to all His promises, the key is to know what He has said and then to stand on those promises. Once you have prayed according to the Word of God, you can then rest assured knowing that it's just a matter of time before you experience the fulfillment of that promise in your life.

📖 "Don't be like the people of this world, but let God change the way you think. Then you will know how to do everything that is good and pleasing to him." -Romans 12:2 Contemporary English Version

As we continue to walk with God, we must continue to renew our minds to the Word of God. God has given us His Word to change our thinking. In order to live on a higher level, we must think on a higher level because as a man thinketh, so is he (Proverbs 23:7). Our outer world is simply a reflection of our inner world. As we feed on the Word of God, it will change our image. It will change how we see yourself and a correlation will take place on the outside. God doesn’t have limitations. All things are possible with Him. His Word tells us that all things are possible with us as well. We are made in God’s image, and we are capable of living in victory the way He walks in victory. The Word of God even tells us that as He is (Jesus), so are we in this world. God expects us to rule and reign as kings in this life. As we renew our minds to the Word of God, eventually we will.

📖 "Take with me your share of hardship [passing through the difficulties which you are called to endure], like a good soldier of Christ Jesus. 4 No soldier in active service gets entangled in the [ordinary business] affairs of civilian life; [he avoids them] so that he may please the one who enlisted him to serve. 5 And if anyone competes as an athlete [in competitive games], he is not crowned [with the wreath of victory] unless he competes according to the rules." -2 Timothy 2:3-5 AMPC

We are soldiers in the army of the Lord, and we are called to prevail and conquer regardless of the hardship that comes our way. God has a destiny for us he wants fulfilled but that will not happen if we crumble under pressure and hardship. Paul went through many different difficulties in his life yet at the end of his journey he was able to say, “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith”. Let us embrace our calling to take on hardship because as we stay with God, we will emerge victorious. We are more than conquerors and greater is He who is in us than he that is in the world. We have the ability and the goods to overcome every obstacle that comes our way. Paul in 2 Corinthians 11:22-27 talks about how much hardship he had gone through in his life, but he did not quit or give up. God has equipped us with the ability to survive the hardships we are called to endure. May we always remember that we can do all things because Christ is the one who strengthens us according to Philippians 4:13.

📖 "He who is faithful in what is least is faithful also in much; and he who is unjust in what is least is unjust also in much. Therefore if you have not been faithful in the unrighteous mammon, who will commit to your trust the true riches? And if you have not been faithful in what is another man’s, who will give you what is your own? -Luke 16:10-12 NKJV

If we want the fullness of what God has in store for us when it comes to life, we must be faithful. We want many things in life like a higher-paying job, a new leadership position, or to create a successful business but we are not faithful in the place we are right now. In Proverbs 20:6 NKJV it says, “Most men will proclaim each his own goodness, But who can find a faithful man?” In the world, some people go from one job to the next leaving each one for the slightest inconvenience. That ought not be for the believer, we should show faithfulness in our lives because God is a faithful God. Proverbs 28:20 NKJV says, “A faithful man will abound with blessings, but he who hastens to be rich will not go unpunished.” When we are faithful to our family, our church, our jobs, etc., blessings will come upon us and overtake us. You may not have everything that you want in life right now but if you remain faithful blessings will come. The Bible tells us to not despise the day of small beginnings which means no matter how small or insignificant things may seem to us, we must remain faithful so God can bring us into greater things. When we look at the life of David he is a good example of someone who had to remain faithful. Before becoming king, he started as a shepherd boy and even after being anointed king he still tended to the sheep. Then he served King Saul until he had to escape for his life. David remained faithful and did not despise the day of small beginnings, and as a result, he was brought into great and mighty things. Let us remain faithful. Blessings are coming!

📖 "The eyes of the Lord are toward the [uncompromisingly] righteous and His ears are open to their cry. The face of the Lord is against those who do evil, to cut off the remembrance of them from the earth. When the righteous cry for help, the Lord hears and delivers them out of all their distress and troubles." -Psalm 34:15-17 Amplified Bible Classic Edition

It pays to be a child of God. Being a member of the Body of Christ has its privileges. As we walk with God and serve Him, we know that if we find ourselves in trouble, we can get God’s attention when we cry out to Him. It's not a cry of despair, it’s a cry of faith. When we act in faith, we can expect God to move on our behalf. When we act in faith, we are simply acting on the Word of God. God tells us that when we ask, we can expect to receive. If we ask God for help, we can expect to receive it. He hears us when we call, and He delivers us from all troubles. It does not matter what type of trouble you find yourself in; God is always able to deliver. God will always honor His Word in our lives. He is watching over His Word to perform it.

📖 "Now, dear children, live in Christ. Then, when he appears we will have confidence, and when he comes we won’t turn from him in shame." -I John 2:28 God’s Word Translation

Jesus is coming soon. We must all be prepared for Him when He returns. We don’t want to be like the bridesmaids in Matthew 25. When the bridegroom showed up, five of the bridesmaids were prepared and went into the wedding hall, but the other five had to go and purchase oil for their lamps. When they were finally ready, the door had been shut, and they were not allowed in. We want to be ready. We don’t want to be in the middle of sinning when the trump of God sounds. We don’t want to be involved in any questionable activity when Jesus returns. We want to stay vigilant and watchful. We don’t want to be ashamed when He comes. We must be ready.  No man knows the day or the hour. Jesus is coming soon!

📖 "Joshua asked the Israelites, How long will you be slack to go in and possess the land which the Lord, the God of your fathers, has given you?" -Joshua 18:3 Amplified Classic Bible

We have all been slack in certain areas of our lives. One thing we can continue to get stronger in, is possessing all that God has for us. We don’t want to be like the Israelites, we don’t want to be slack concerning the promises of God. We don’t want to leave anything on the table. We should want everything that God has for us. It will take effort on our part. It will take diligence. We have to take it. God had given them (the Israelites) the promised land, but there were giants that had to be defeated. They had to ‘take’ the Promised Land even though it had been promised to them. We also must take the land (promises). We must slay every giant. We cannot be satisfied until we experience all that God has for us. That is truly the abundant life.

📖 "David inquired of the Lord, saying, Shall I go up against the Philistines? Will You deliver them into my hand? And the Lord said to David, Go up, for I will surely deliver [them] into your hand." -II Samuel 5:10 Amplified Classic

How many mistakes could we have avoided if we inquired of the Lord more? How many hardships could we have avoided if we simply sought the Lord about what to do next? God knows the future. God knows every detail of every situation we face, and yet we still try to figure things out on our own. At times, we still lean to our own understanding concerning life-changing matters. God wants to lead us and guide us by His Spirit. He wants to tell us what to do, so that we can avoid any pitfalls and struggles. God wants to instruct us. He wants us to experience His goodness and His faithfulness in every area of our lives, but He will not force it on us. He is a gentleman. Let’s cut down on the mistakes. Let’s remove the self-inflicted hardships. Let’s seek the Lord. Good things always happen when we do.

📖 "The righteous will inherit the land and live in it forever. The mouth of the righteous proclaims wisdom, And his tongue speaks justice and truth. The law of his God is in his heart; Not one of his steps will slip.” -Psalm 37:29-31 Amplified Bible

The Word of God is our guidebook in life. It will instruct us and lead us in the way that we should go. When the Word is in your heart in abundance, you will not only know what to say, you will know when to say it. Ecclesiastes 3:7 tells us that there is a time to speak and a time to be silent. When the trials of life come our way, we speak what is in our hearts, and as believers, the Word of God should come out. God’s Word will guard your steps. The Spirit of God will bring to your remembrance what the Word of God says about the situation you are facing and what to do to overcome it. God’s Word is our answer. As we keep His laws in our hearts we can expect to walk in our inheritance. We can expect to proclaim the right things. We can expect our steps to be ordered by Him, keeping our steps from slipping.

📖 "Now when He saw that He did not prevail against him, He touched the socket of his hip; and the socket of Jacob’s hip was out of joint as He wrestled with him. And He said, “Let Me go, for the day breaks. “But he said, “I will not let You go unless You bless me! “So He said to him, “What is your name? “He said, “Jacob. “And He said, “Your name shall no longer be called Jacob, but Israel; for you have struggled with God and with men, and have prevailed.” -Genesis 32:25-28 NKJV

In this scripture, we see that because of Jacob’s persistence, he was able to get a blessing from God. As believers, we cannot be people who give up early and so easily. We must be people who persist through every obstacle and every circumstance that comes our way so we can win the prize that we want in God. The Bible says in Hebrews 11:6 NKJV “But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.” We see here that God rewards those who are persistent in seeking him. Jacob is a great example of not letting go until you get what you want from God. Another good example would be the two blind men who followed after Jesus with such persistence that Jesus was forced to stop and see what the two men wanted. Shortly after that, the two men received their sight, but we must recognize that their persistence allowed them to receive from God. We want to encourage you to be persistent in your endeavors when it comes to things of God.

📖 And her [promised] husband Joseph, being a just and upright man and not willing to expose her publicly and to shame and disgrace her, decided to repudiate and dismiss (divorce) her quietly and secretly. But as he was thinking this over, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, Joseph, descendant of David, do not be afraid to take Mary [as] your wife, for that which is conceived in her is of (from, out of) the Holy Spirit. She will bear a Son, and you shall call His name Jesus [the Greek form of the Hebrew Joshua, which means Savior], for He will save His people from their sins [that is, prevent them from failing and missing the true end and scope of life, which is God]. -Matthew 1:19-21 Amplified Bible Classic Edition

As we celebrate the birth of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, let’s not forget about the part that Mary and Joseph played. Both individuals said yes to the plan of God. They both understood the magnitude of saying yes to what the angel had said. Mary and Joseph knew that they might be ridiculed and disdained because Mary would give birth to a child before they were married. People wouldn’t have known what God had said to them, but they said yes anyway. Jesus came into this earth to parents who submitted to the will of God. We must follow their example. Regardless of what it may look like to the outside world, we must obey God. We must follow the leadership of the Holy Spirit when it doesn’t make sense in the natural. When we hear from God, and know that we heard from Him, we must follow Him. We must be like Jesus, when He said not my will, but your will be done. God’s path is always the best path. His way is always the best way.

📖 Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. -1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 NKJV

As we can see from this scripture, God wants us to pray without ceasing. Prayer is a way of staying connected to God. There are so many different things that we could need answers to or help with at any given moment. God is our help, and as we continue to pray fervently to Him, He will meet our every need. Praying with other tongues is especially helpful. The Bible says in Romans 8:26 NKJV, “Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.” When we don’t know exactly what to say to God, praying in the spirit can help us pray as we should. Paul said in 1 Corinthians 14:18 NKJV, “I thank my God I speak with tongues more than you all.” This tells us that Paul understood that to fulfill the calling on his life he had to stay connected to God. Praying in tongues helped him to do that. Prayer is staying connected to the vine (Jesus) and without being connected to the vine, we cannot bear fruit. When we look at the life of Jesus, he was constantly getting away to pray to His Father. As believers, we must understand that if we are to be successful in life, we must stay connected to God through prayer.

📖 But now bring me a minstrel. And while the minstrel played, the hand and power of the Lord came upon [Elisha]. And he said, Thus says the Lord: Make this [dry] brook bed full of trenches. For thus says the Lord: You shall not see wind or rain, yet that ravine shall be filled with water, so you, your cattle, and your beasts [of burden] may drink. This is but a light thing in the sight of the Lord. He will deliver the Moabites also into your hands.” -II Kings 3:15-18 Amplified Classic

It doesn’t matter what you are facing in your life right now, it is a light thing for God. Your getting out of debt is a light thing for God. Getting your children out of the world is a light thing for God. Whatever it is in your life that is negative, it is a light thing for God to turn it around. Many times, we look at God through the wrong lenses. We think that if it is difficult for us, it will be difficult for God. Life is so much easier when we give our challenges to God. Life is easier when we give Him our burdens and our cares. God is smarter than all of us put together, and He knows how to handle the challenges and the difficulties of our lives. Let’s have the right perspective. Let’s have GOD’S perspective: regardless of what you are facing, it is a light thing for God.
