📖 For if you love those who love you, what reward can you have? Do not even the tax collectors do that?
And if you greet only your brethren, what more than others are you doing? Do not even the Gentiles (the heathen) do that?
You, therefore, must be perfect [growing into complete maturity of godliness in mind and character, having reached the proper height of virtue and integrity], as your heavenly Father is perfect.
—Matthew 5:46-48 AMPC
Do you really want to be like the Father? Do you really want to imitate Him? One way we can do that is by loving people the way He loves people. We can’t just love the people who love us. We must love the ones who mistreat us just as much as the ones who love and respect us. We must greet people with love even if they roll their eyes and act like they don’t want to speak to us. In verse forty-five, the Bible tells us that God makes “the sun to rise on the wicked and the good”. God is good to all. God pours His goodness out on everyone. If God can do it, so can we. We can be a blessing to everyone, the saved and the unsaved. We can treat everyone right, the saved and the unsaved. We can love everyone, the saved and the unsaved. We can be just like our Father. We can demonstrate His love to humanity. We can reach the proper height of virtue and integrity just like our Heavenly Father.
