Luke 8:43-48 NJKV
Now a woman, having a flow of blood for twelve years, who had spent all her livelihood on physicians and could not be healed by any, came from behind and touched the border of His garment. And immediately her flow of blood stopped.
And Jesus said, “Who touched Me?”
When all denied it, Peter and those with him said, “Master, the multitudes throng and press You, and You say, ‘Who touched Me?’”
But Jesus said, “Somebody touched Me, for I perceived power going out from Me.” Now when the woman saw that she was not hidden, she came trembling; and falling down before Him, she declared to Him in the presence of all the people the reason she had touched Him and how she was healed immediately.
And He said to her, “Daughter, be of good cheer; your faith has made you well. Go in peace.”
The woman in this story came to a sad realization as she sought to be healed by human hands. Despite spending all her money, there was no man who could help her. She not only did not get better, she got worse. Finally, weak and broke, she heard about Jesus and decided to pursue Him in an effort to be healed. She believed that if she just touched the hem of His garment she would be healed. So she pressed her way through the crowd, using what strength she could muster and reached her goal. As soon as she touched Jesus’ clothes she was healed. He did not charge her one penny. Yet, He did more for her than all the physicians who took all her wealth. Jesus explained the currency that was used to get this miracle. He said, “Daughter, be of good cheer; your faith has made you well.” Faith is better than money. There are many rich people who have died because their money could not buy them health and they had no faith in God. We may think it is wonderful to have a lot of money but we are much wealthier if we have faith. Faith can get for us what money cannot buy. Thank God for the free gift of faith which we can develop by speaking and hearing God’s Word.
