1 John 3:1 NKJV

Behold what manner of love the Father has bestowed on us, that we should be called children of God! Therefore the world does not know us, because it did not know Him.

John understood to some degree the marvelous love given to us by God and it caused him to say, “Behold!” In other words, “Check this out! Notice this!” We can understand the love of God in stages. As we draw closer to Him our understanding of that love increases and changes us. John said we are called children of God. People who are children of famous persons have an attitude about themselves. Once they get old enough to appreciate who they are they carry themselves with a certain confidence that goes with knowing you have privileges others don’t have. People who know the famous people will treat their offspring with preference and favor because they know who they are associated with. However, if they do not know who they are they will treat them like everyone else or even mistreat them. John said the world does not know who we are because they don’t know God. We cannot expect the world to treat us the way we ought to be treated because they don’t know who we are. The main problem though is that we often do not know who we are. Our speech and conduct give that away. Can we be more conscious of who we are today and let it affect our speech, disposition and conduct? We are children of the Most High God. We have been given that status because of God’s love for us.
