Psalm 119:124 NKJV
Deal with Your servant according to Your mercy, and teach me Your statutes.
The psalmist asked God to deal with him based on God's mercy. How wise! We can sometimes come to God to get what we think we deserve. We foolishly think more highly of ourselves than we ought. We are in pitiful shape, and have fallen far short of the mark. If we got what we deserve we would be doomed. Thank God we do not have to live with a consciousness of our unworthiness, because God cleanses us from our sins and makes allowances for our shortcomings. He teaches us to see ourselves in Christ - righteous, holy and clean before Him. However, we cannot get our right standing in Christ mixed up with our personal righteousness. Isaiah said our righteousness is like filthy rags. Thank God He deals with us according to His mercy and not according to what we deserve.
