Jeremiah 29:7 NKJV
And seek the peace of the city where I have caused you to be carried away captive, and pray to the Lord for it; for in its peace you will have peace.
The prophet Jeremiah, speaking on behalf of the Lord, encouraged the Jews who were taken to Babylon to contribute to the peace of the land where they resided and pray for its peace. He said that they would experience peace as a result. We need to think about that in terms of where we live - not just in our country but starting with our homes, churches, workplaces, communities, cities, states, etc. Wherever we are, we must realize that the peace of the place affects our peace. The more at peace the place is, the easier it is for us to function in peace. We can fight against the atmosphere in order to walk in peace, but it will very difficult if the agitated atmosphere is one we helped to create. So, let us be aware of what we are doing to affect the atmosphere around us. We are to contribute to peace and pray for it wherever we are in the world.
