Leviticus 2:1 NKJV
‘When anyone offers a grain offering to the Lord, his offering shall be of fine flour. And he shall pour oil on it, and put frankincense on it.
We should pay attention to the way we give to God and refresh our attitude from time to time so it does not become a ritual. Ritualism can take away the fragrance from our offering and make it dry. God does not need anything from us for Himself. He is perfect and owns everything already. Giving offerings is a part of our fellowship and communion with Him. We get blessed for doing it. We are the ones who have needs.
Psalm 50:9-12 NKJV
I will not take a bull from your house,
Nor goats out of your folds.
For every beast of the forest is Mine,
And the cattle on a thousand hills.
I know all the birds of the mountains,
And the wild beasts of the field are Mine.
“If I were hungry, I would not tell you;
For the world is Mine, and all its fullness.
David had understanding of this. When he gathered offerings to build a temple for God, he took great pleasure in the project and strongly exhorted his son, Solomon to take the project seriously and be mindful of whom it was for. When David observed the generous offerings he and others had given for the temple, his praise to God showed his understanding of the concept of giving God an offering. It is our pleasure, honor and privilege – not a duty.
1 Chronicles 29:13-16 NKJV
Now therefore, our God,
We thank You
And praise Your glorious name.
But who am I, and who are my people,
That we should be able to offer so willingly as this?
For all things come from You,
And of Your own we have given You.
For we are aliens and pilgrims before You,
As were all our fathers;
Our days on earth are as a shadow,
And without hope.
“O Lord our God, all this abundance that we have prepared to build You a house for Your holy name is from Your hand, and is all Your own.
