1 Samuel 15:13-14 NKJV
Then Samuel went to Saul, and Saul said to him, “Blessed are you of the Lord! I have performed the commandment of the Lord.”
But Samuel said, “What then is this bleating of the sheep in my ears, and the lowing of the oxen which I hear?”
There are times when we are uncertain about the direction the Lord is taking us and we do our best to follow what is in our hearts. However, there are times we are certain. We know exactly what God has instructed us to do - either from the Word or from our spirits. When God gave specific instructions to Saul to pass judgment on Amalek for their evil against Israel, Saul did almost everything. Then he told Samuel he did what the Lord commanded. Samuel’s response was (in my own words) - “Really?! Then why do I hear evidence to the contrary. I should not be hearing the sounds I hear if you had done as you were told.” Saul lost the legacy that would have been passed on to his children because he wanted to do things his own way. He disrespected God who made him king. When we are certain of God’s instructions, we must remember that He is God and we are not. Every instruction God gives us has a purpose. So let’s respect Him and follow everything He says . Then when we go to praise and worship Him, He won’t say, “Really?!”
