John 21:21-22 NKJV
Peter, seeing him, said to Jesus, “But Lord, what about this man?”
Jesus said to him, “If I will that he remain till I come, what is that to you? You follow Me.”
Last week I dreamt I was outside with someone. A few birds flew from a tree to the ground carrying a piece of foil wrap with 3 eggs in it. It appeared as though they had to move from their nest and came up with a way to move the eggs safely. As the person with me went to examine the package, I told her not to touch the eggs because it could cause the birds to abandon them. She tried to move the whole container without touching the insides but one of the eggs fell out and broke and the contents spilled out. The eggs looked like chicken eggs in size and content. Then the other eggs suffered the same fate. I don’t remember how the other 2 fell out.
There were 3 birds and 3 eggs. The eggs did not belong to those birds. The 3rd letter of the Hebrew alphabet is Gimel and has a value of 3. There are many meanings of the number 3 so we must search out the appropriate one for our situation. In this case, I will go with the the letter Gimel’s pictographic meaning of ‘ripen’, ‘nourish’ and ‘mature’. The 3 birds were intending to ripen, nourish or bring to maturity a project - the eggs - that was not theirs and was too big for them. Foil wrap represents protection. We have no natural ability to protect something that is not ours and is too big for us. The birds should have left the eggs where they found them and let happen what was going to happen. Sometimes we try to preserve something that is destined for disaster if we touch it – or whether or not we touch it. So we must leave alone what is to be left alone and tend to what we are assigned to.
