Protests/ threats against justices on Supreme Court continues
Conservatives, republicans, and supporters of the Supreme justices continue to protest the recent attacks on the court. Protests have continued in front of conservative justices’ homes. Intimidation of a federal judge is a crime by law, but protestors have not been arrested on banned from these kinds of demonstrations. Justice Brent Kavanaugh’s home was recently at the center of a prevented attack against the justice. According to reports a 26-year-old man named Nicholas Roske, was arrested with various items including a Glock 17 pistol, zip ties, a knife, and other weapons. Roske is charged with attempted murder. According to reports Justice Kavanaugh was at home at the time of the attempted attack with his wife and children. Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi did comment that more protection for the Supreme Court Justices has been approved but continued to downplay the incident. Pelosi claims Kavanaugh was not in any real danger.
Major churches announce changes/ continued splits over LGBT policy
Two church organizations have announced major changes. The Mennonite Church USA has announced an end to amendments condemning homosexuality. The organization voted to have a new resolution that welcomes members of the LGBT community to their congregations.
The previous resolution declared homosexuality a sin and banned ministers from performing same sex weddings. Ministers in the Mennonite church will now be allowed to conduct a same sex wedding, but this will be done at the discretion of the senior pastor of each church.
More churches end affiliation with national Methodist church branch
The Methodist Church USA has ended its relationship with more churches this time in the state of Georgia. 70 churches in Georgia ended their affiliation with the newly named Global Methodist Church. These churches left due to the national organization’s approval of same-sex marriage and LGBT clergy. This major split between conservative and the more liberal Methodist churches began in 2019.
