Canadian pastor flees country to avoid persecution from Canadian government
A pastor in Canada has moved his family out of the country after ongoing persecution from the government. Pastor Harold Ristau and his family have moved to Kenya following persecution from his own government. Attorneys for Ristau say the intimidation and threat of jail time started following Ristau’s participation in protests. The pastor participated in a peaceful protest against COVID-19 policies in that nation. Canadian officials mandated truck drivers to receive the COVID shot in order to continue working. Thousands of Canadians responded by protesting in support of that nation’s truck drivers. Pastor Ristau along with 10-thousand others peacefully protested as part of the Freedom Convoy protests. The pastor and other removed a blockade surrounding a war memorial and cleaned the monument, along singing the Canadian national anthem and prayer in protest. Following confirmation of Ristau’s presence at the protest, the Canadian government froze the pastor’s financial assets and threatened jail time. Ristau says his family was bullied and threatened, leaving him no choice but to move the family out of the country.
