Biden Administration announces nomination for Supreme Court vacancy
Justice Ketanji Brown-Jackson has been nominated to the U.S. Supreme Court. Justice Jackson if approved would be the first Black woman on the nation’s highest court. During campaigning Mr. Biden promised a black woman would be nominated if he had the opportunity to replace a judge. Last year, Justice Stephen Breyer has announced he retire at the end of this summer. The justice’s nomination is controversial because of her more liberal stance. Senator Lindsay Graham tweeted his disappointment on the nomination. The senator says he had hoped for a more moderate choice.
(SNBC NEWS NOTE: Senator Graham expressed disappointment and noted that he had suggested Justice J. Michelle Childs, a judge with the United States District Court for the District of South Carolina. Senator Graham being from South Carolina, suggested Justice Childs, believing she would be a good moderate choice for the court. Critics disliked the choice because the justice has a more conservative record and is a practicing Catholic-meaning her faith may sway her decisions on the court.)
The CEO of First Liberty called Jackson a “justice activist”. Kelly Shackleford says the justice showed hostility towards religious liberty, free speech, and constitutional rights early in her judicial career. Senators on the committee have promised a fair review of Jackson during this process. The Supreme Court is a lifetime appointment; if approved the justice, who is 51 years old, could be on the court for a long time shaping the interpretation of US law. 

Canadian government extends Emergency Act to quell Freedom Convoy protests
The Canadian government is continuing its all-out offensive against truck drivers protesting mandates. According to reports the Canadian government extended its emergency act to stop protesting in that nation’s capital. The act would allow blockades of areas in Ottawa, confiscating protestors vehicles and allowing police to freeze protestors financial accounts. The efforts are being made to stop nationwide convoy protests by Canadian trucker drivers. Known as the freedom convoy, truckers in the nation are protesting continued restrictions on Canadian citizens. The protests have gained worldwide attention and criticism of the Canadian government for its harsh response to those protesting. The protests have inspired other truck drivers around the world including here in the U.S. to create their own freedom convoys.

Evangelist recounts miraculous story of God’s love
A evangelism organization in Africa is reporting a miracle that shows the power of God’s love. Oscar Amaechina is president of the Afri-Mission and Evangelism Network. The organization works to witness the gospel to Africans in small villages and remote areas. During one mission in Nigeria, Amaechina recounted a miraculous story. According to the evangelist, he and his team were ministering in an area when they were attacked by a group of terrorists. The men were sent to kill the missionaries because of their work in the village. Instead of fearing the men, the evangelist said he and his team offered their would-be attackers’ food and other items the men needed. Mr. Amaechina says the leader of the group then told him the men had never received gifts before. Because of this act of kindness, and showing God’s love to them, the men told the evangelist and his team they wanted to become Christians. The team then lead the men to Christ. Mr. Amaechina says this story is a reminder and an example of the power of showing God’s love to others. (SNBC NEWS NOTE: The anchor reminded the live and streaming audience to please continue to keep Christians and Jews around the world in prayer; persecution of both groups is on the rise especially in places where Jews and Christians are smaller minority groups ex. India and the Middle East).

SNBC Health report: combating food cravings naturally
We have reported previously that some companies fill processed foods with ingredients such as sugar for the purpose of keeping customers coming back for more. Sugar, especially white sugar can be found in all varieties of processed foods. Eating these kinds of foods in abundance over time is not good for the human body. Some medical experts claim the body doesn’t and cannot have a chemical dependency on sugar or processed foods. However, there are studies that prove sugar and other processed foods, can be more or just as addictive as a narcotic. To combat this issue researchers advise avoiding certain foods like white sugar, artificial sweeteners, limiting processed foods and reading labels as often as you can. Perimeter shopping at grocery stores, eating fruit instead of candy and other sweets, and cooking at home as much as possible are other ways to help combat dependency on sugar and processed foods naturally.

Arizona state Congress passes abortion bill into law 
The Arizona State Congress has passed a ban on abortion into law. The new law is considered one of the nation’s most restrictive. The ban will now prohibit abortions in that state after 15 weeks. Secular media described the law as being passed by the “Arizona GOP controlled Senate”. Democrats condemning the law showed the same amount of contempt calling the law a disadvantage to the poor and minorities. Senator Nancy Barto, who represents the state of Arizona says the law is designed to prevent the painful deaths of the unborn. In her comments Barto remarked that babies in the womb by this time frame are fully formed and can feel pain. There is a similar law in Mississippi that is expected to be appealed to the US Supreme Court. Barto says she hopes the courts uphold that law which would in turn would keep Arizona’s law and similar legislation from being challenged. 

School board officials voted out of office in San Francisco
 Parents in the city of San Francisco made a statement at the ballot box this week recalling three elected officials. Three members of the city’s school board were voted out of office after the efforts of angry parent. Most parents in San Francisco voiced their disapproval of the board’s handling of students’ education, especially during the extended lockdowns in that city and in California.  Parents also expressed frustration over the board’s attempt to change the names of local schools. Among those schools two were named after George Washington, and Abraham Lincoln. Opponents of the school board members say the board focused on pushing liberal views and neglected the education of the city’s children. The city’s mayor London Breed was an advocate for the recall and says the parents who launched the special election were fighting for what matters most, the children. Similar efforts led to the eventual ouster of Virginia’s governor after angry parents were targeted by state and federal officials for protesting the addition of controversial school curriculums that included critical race theory. 
(The officials in San Francisco were the only candidates up for recall elections, but parents wanted to send a message that they did not approve of the board’s actions). 

US Jewish community condemns Presbyterian leader for comments
 Members of the Jewish Community here in the US and allies are demanding the resignation of a religious leader after he made controversial remarks. Presbyterian USA official Rev. J Herbert Nelson II made comments on two separate occasions targeting the nation of Israel. In his remarks Nelson claimed Israel was occupying the West Bank and referred to the situation as 21 century slavery. He also called on the US Jewish community to influence the US government to help end this “immoral enslavement.” Conservative and Pro-Israel Jewish groups called Rev. Nelson’s remarks dangerous and false. The Jewish Council for Public affairs released a statement condemning the remarks, calling them profoundly anti-Semitic. The comments were made in January of this year. Rev. Nelson has refused to apologize and further added to his statements saying, Palestinians, “Do not have freedom to be who they are in community with everybody else. They are limited. That is slavery. They don’t have the opportunity to be able to engage the way others are able to engage in society.” Several rabbis in the Jewish community are calling for Nelson’s resignation after the recent remarks and criticizing the Presbyterian USA organization for not condemning the remarks. The PUSA has only remarked that Nelson comments do not reflect the organization.

 The health benefits of fish and how it has a positive effect on the human body has been widely reported. Most people know of Omega-3 fatty acids, but there are so many more health benefits you can acquire from eating fish. Fish is not only high in Omega-3 fatty acid, but it considered a high-quality protein, rich in iodine and vitamin D. It is considered a heart healthy food and beneficial to the brain.  Some doctors believe fish helps with the prevention of auto immune issues and maybe beneficial in helping prevent childhood asthma. Nutrients found in fish are beneficial to eye health and could help improve sleep. To receive these benefits according to researchers, avoid farm raised fish, purchase wild caught only. When purchasing try to buy fish such as mackerel, tuna, salmon, trout, and sardines. These species are referred to as fatty fish, which contain the highest amount of nutrients.

Pro-life group settles with North Carolina county officials
Activists with the organization Love Life have won their case in court. The organization sued Guilford County North Carolina after an incident in March 2020. Members of the pro-life group were peacefully protesting in front of an abortion clinic when they were arrested. Police from both Guilford and Greensboro participated in the arrest of the protestors. The officers claimed the protesters were not in compliance with COVID-19 restrictions as cause for their arrest. According to Love Life, participants were limited to no more than ten for the gathering and were social distancing at the time of the arrest. The group was defended by attorneys with Alliance Defending Freedom. The attorneys claimed their clients First Amendment rights were violated along with their religious liberties. Guilford County has agreed to pay 15-thousand dollars towards the protestors fees and vowed to uphold citizens’ rights if a future COVID order comes out. Attorneys for the protester’s say they commend Guilford County officials for agreeing to respect free speech. 

US Truck convoys set to begin inspired by Canadian convoys
The protest convoys by truck drivers in Canada is motivating others around the world. According to reports a group of US truck drivers are now planning a cross country convoy to protest covid mandates. Organizer Brian Brase says the protest is in support of groups still under mandates. Brase says healthcare workers, members of law enforcement, teachers, and military personnel should not be forced to take the covid shot at the risk of losing their jobs. He called the mission a protest against human rights violations. The organizers reported 100-thousands followers on social media before two leaders’ pages were removed. Social media company Facebook claimed the group violated Q’Anon standards. Truckers in the U.S. plan to drive from California to D.C. as part of the protest. Truck drivers in Canada are currently in the capital of Ottawa as part of their freedom convoy. Officials there have now declared a state of emergency and are urging truckers to go home. More protests are reportedly being planned by truck drivers in parts of Europe, New Zealand, and Australia. 

Christian promoted to top office in Egyptian Court System
Some good and historic news from the nation of Egypt. The nation’s government has named the first Christian to lead Egypt’s highest court. Judge Boulos Fahmy will be the 19th justice to preside over Egypt’s Supreme Constitutional Court. The previous justice over the court recently retired due to health issues; Fahmy was recently announced as his successor. Experts in Egypt’s judicial affairs called the appointment historic, and a giant move towards political and civil rights in that nation. Coptic Christians make up ten percent of Egypt’s population (102 million)and have been the target of discrimination. The president of Egypt, according to experts is making more efforts to protect and show solidarity with Christians since taking office in 2014. 

SNBC Health report: the effects worry on the human body
SNBC Health news segments mainly focus on the best ways to strengthen the human body from the inside out. In this segment we wanted to present what physically happens to the body in this report we are looking at the effects of worry in the body. A recent study released on worry followed middle-aged men, but the results are something everyone can take notice of for their own personal health. Researchers found men who worry were prone to higher risk of heart disease, stroke, and type 2 diabetes. Due to worry and anxiety, certain subjects in the study were diagnosed earlier in life with health issues. The study published in the Journal of the American Heart Association followed primarily middle-aged white men and found those with higher levels of anxiousness and worry had a rise in heart issues and other conditions. A similar study was conducted by the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs in Boston. Veterans were followed for several years in the study. Researchers found again those who had a high amount of anxiety and worry were at higher risk for heart disease, cancer, or other stress related issues in the body. Health experts advised medicine to treat anxiety however there’s a better to combat worry.

SNBC NEWS UPDATE:
Pfizer has withdrawn its application for developing a covid shot for children under age 5. The application has been dropped due to insufficient data. Also Johnson and Johnson has quietly stopped production of its one dose single shot covid vaccine. The company did not announce why and the end of production was not released, but instead announced by media outlets that discovered the news and released it to the public. SNBC NEWS will report more details on these stories as information is released.

Governor of South Dakota signs transgender athlete ban in women’s sports
Governor Kristi Noem, the governor of South Dakota, has signed a ban on transgender athletes in that state into law. This state law is now the 10th of its kind in the nation. It’s the first of this year. The controversy surrounding transgender athletes started with a case at the University of Pennsylvania. The student in question competed for three years on the University’s men’s swim team before announcing he wanted to live as a woman. Following this announcement and a medical procedure, the student was allowed by the school to compete on the women’s swim team. The student has been dominating the women’s swim category for the past year. Other competitors including the student’s teammates have filed complaints, and written open letters to the NCAA. The athletes want a fair advantage and say competing against a biological male is wrong in women’s sports. Governor Noem says she wants women’s sports to be fair for biological women in South Dakota. Several states have been sued over banning transgender athletes in women’s sports. The NCAA recently updated its policy due to the controversy to allow each governing body of a sport to make its own decision. 

Companies push for covid shots for children under 5 years old
 Two companies are requesting approval to administer the covid shot to small children under the age of 5. BioNTech SE and Pfizer applied at the request of the FDA for approval to administer the shot to children ages 4 and under. Some of the company’s clinical trials administered the shot to children as young as six months old. The companies according to reports have not met the trial requirements but have still submitted their results for approval. Supporters claim this will ease concerns of parents dealing with closures of daycares and preschools due to covid outbreaks. Medical experts involved in the study trials say the dosage would be only two shots instead of the recommended three possibly four shots for adults. Critics believe a covid shot is not needed for children because they are the lowest in ranking of covid cases as far as illnesses or deaths. Opponents of young children receiving covid shots are concerned about long term side effects in children based on side effects already being reported in teens and adults.  

Israeli citizens/Pro Israel groups congratulate Nobel Peace Prize Nominees
Former and current officials for the nation of Israel are congratulating the founder of a pro-Israel organization for a recent nomination. Mike Evans, founder of Friends of Zion Museum located in Jerusalem has been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize. Evans was nominated for his work combating Antisemitism. Evans called the nomination an honor and says the work he is doing is greater than himself. Mr. Evans was also praised for his work by colleagues. The nomination was featured on several Pro-Israel and Jewish news sites and social media. In addition to the museum and his work against Antisemitism, Evans created the Friends of Zion award. The award is given to world leaders who support Israel. Two US Presidents: George Bush and Donald Trump have each received the award. Former Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called Mike Evans a fighter for freedom in a world of darkening and narrowing horizons. He also praised Evans for his devotion to Israel.

Satanic Temple launches after school program in Illinois  
Children at an Illinois elementary school are learning the essentials for a quality education. Reading, writing, and lessons about Satan. According to parents a new after school club has been started by the local satanic temple. Parents complained after flyers promoting the club were distributed at Jane Addams School in Moline, Illinois. The school club according to the promotion emphasizes science, nationalism, and a non-superstitious world view. The club is run by “volunteer teachers.” Parents took to social media to protest the club being on a school campus. The school district says they do not discriminate against any group that wishes to rent their facilities and clubs are attended by choice, not by force. The district claimed the club’s approval was based on them allowing an Evangelical Christian club. Because this club was allowed other religious groups must be allowed to have clubs as well. Matt Staver founder of Liberty Counsel says this group is run by atheists using the club as a disruption to schools.

Countries continue to drop covid restrictions 

Several nations are announcing the end of their covid protocol or relaxing these rules. Protests around the world have become common place following outright discrimination against those who have not received the Covid shot. In several countries, including here in the US, those who have not taken the shot have been banned from public areas including restaurants, sports arenas, public transportation, and other public buildings claiming the ban was to help stop the spread. Heavy criticism and ongoing protests are now seeing these rules relaxed or abolished. The nation of Denmark recently announced it would allow free access to all its citizens. That nation’s Prime Minister said in a statement, “We welcome the life we knew before the pandemic.” The nation of Austria has nationwide mandates that will go into effect on February 1st. The country has announced no more restrictions for those who have not taken the shot. The nation of Israel has also announced changes to it covid restrictions. The government will not be allowed to impose restrictions on that nation’s citizens without the approval of the nation’s Parliament. The new law also limits a state of emergency lockdown in Israel to only 30-90 days depending on approval. Several places including Canada, and here in the U.S. are still experiencing protests by citizens pushing for restrictions to be lifted. 

SNBC NEWS UPDATE: Judge sentences student in Virginia for jail time over sexual assaults
 A judge has ruled jail time for a student involved in a crime that gained nationwide attention. The student at the center of the crime was charged with sexually assaulting two teenage girls in two separate incidents in Virginia. The boy claimed to be gender fluid and used access to the girls’ restrooms at school to attack the victims. The father of one of the girls was later arrested at a school board meeting after he demanded to know why the student was not arrested. The sexual assaults only added to the outcry from parents. Frustrated parents were already protesting critical race theory being taught in Virginia public schools. The situation boiled over into outbursts and arrests of angry parents at school board meetings across the state. The US Justice Department later ordered parents to be monitored and called them domestic terrorists. That department later apologized for their course of action. The student was previously not charged in the cases. The new justice in the case, Pamela Brooks says she was disturbed by the student’s behavior and saw him as a threat to others in the future. The student will be in a juvenile facility until he turns 18 and will have to register a sex offender for his entire adult life according to the justice’s decision. 

SNBC Health report: exercising 10 minutes a day still shows benefits
exercising just 10 minutes a day is considered beneficial to your health. Most health experts advise at least 30 minutes of exercise 3 times a week, but if that is not an option researchers find at least 10 minutes a day can still be a benefit to the human body. Researchers found at least 10 minutes of vigorous exercise each day boosts mood and helps with cognitive function. It also protects joints and builds strength even in a limited amount of time. Exercising for at least ten minutes a day also helped study subjects sleep better, reduce stress and they were still able to see benefits concerning weight management. There are similar benefits that are acquired from increasing exercise time each week. The study was conducted to prove even the smallest amount of time still benefits the human body when it comes to movement.
