God created places before he made people. God is a God of placement. God had already predetermined Isaac’s success, but his success was predicated on his being where God wanted him to be. It reminds us of the story of Elijah. God told him to go by the brook Cherith, and while he was there, ravens brought him food twice a day. Once the brook dried up, God told him to go and connect himself to a widow. God sustained Elijah, the widow, and her son during the remainder of the famine. If Elijah had decided to go somewhere else, he would not have received the provision that God had prearranged. Isaac would eventually become very wealthy while the rest of the world endured severe famine. God will always take care of us, when we are where he wants us to be. Isaiah 1:19 tells us that if we “be willing and obedient, we will eat the good of the land”.
