DAILY DEVOTIONAL | March 29th

📖 I’m the least important of the apostles. I don’t deserve to be called an apostle, because I harassed God’s church.  I am what I am by God’s grace, and God’s grace hasn’t been for nothing. In fact, I have worked harder than all the others—that is, it wasn’t me but the grace of God that is with me. —I Corinthians 15:9-10 CEB

We are who we are by God’s grace. We are nothing apart from it. Paul had a revelation and a personal acquaintance with the grace of God. He acknowledged that he had severely persecuted the church. He felt that this made him the least of the apostles. He felt that he was not worthy of being called an apostle because of his past mistakes. We can all have a moment like this. If we don’t stay on top of ourselves, we can allow the past to lower our self-worth, but thank God for His grace! His grace makes us worthy. His grace is what allows us to move forward and to move on, free from condemnation. We must be like Paul; we cannot allow His grace to be in vain. We must press toward the mark. We must walk in the divine calling. We must strive to attain all that He has preordained for us to walk in. His grace cannot be for nothing.

📖 Be not rash with your mouth, and let not your heart be hasty to utter a word before God. For God is in heaven, and you are on earth; therefore let your words be few.
—Ecclesiastes 5:2 AMPC

Words are connectors. Your words will either connect you to God or connect you with the devil. We should not be rash with our mouths. We must think before we speak. Heaven is listening to our words, but so is hell. Heaven moves on faith filled words. Hell will move on fear filled words. God told the Israelites that He was going to give them what was spoken in His ears (Numbers 14:28). Jesus said that we can have what we say if we don’t doubt it in our hearts (Mark11:23). As believers we need to start acting like we believe it. When we do, we will be more disciplined with our words.

📖 And when they knew (perceived, recognized, understood, and acknowledged) the grace (God’s unmerited favor and spiritual blessing) that had been bestowed upon me, James and Cephas (Peter) and John, who were reputed to be pillars of the Jerusalem church, gave to me and Barnabas the right hand of fellowship, with the understanding that we should go to the Gentiles and they to the circumcised (Jews)."
—Galatians 2:9 AMPC

God knows how to confirm the gifts and callings that are on our lives. Here it was confirmed and recognized that Paul had been called to the Gentiles and that Peter and John were sent to the Jewish people. The Bible tells us that “in the multitude of counsellors there is safety”. Paul knew that he was called to the Gentiles, but it was later confirmed by these “pillars” of the church. There are times when we know what we are called to do and where we are called to do it. There are also times where God will confirm these details through a man or woman of God. John the Baptist knew who he was, and he knew his purpose. When they asked him if he was the Messiah, he would reply, “No”. He would then follow up by letting them know that he was the voice of one crying in the wilderness, “Prepare ye the way of the Lord”. God will confirm the calling, and He will put His stamp on what He has called us to do.

📖 Then Caleb quieted the people before Moses, and said, “Let us go up at once and take possession, for we are well able to overcome it.”
—Numbers 13:30 KJV

We are world overcomers, and we are well able to overcome anything that comes our way. Caleb was reminding the children of Israel that they have a covenant God on their side which meant they already had the victory. We can sometimes be so concerned with how things may look in the natural world that we forget our spiritual heritage. There is nothing this world can throw at us that our God cannot handle. We belong to the God of victory so we should expect to win in every area of our lives.

📖 Elijah was a human being with a nature such as we have [with feelings, affections, and a constitution like ours]; and he prayed earnestly for it not to rain, and no rain fell on the earth for three years and six months.

And [then] he prayed again and the heavens supplied rain and the land produced its crops [as usual].
—James 5:17-18 AMPC

Elijah was human just like us. He dealt with feelings, emotions and affections just like we do. Even though he was like us, he was still able to do mighty things through the power of prayer. He prayed, and the rain ceased. When he prayed again, it rained again. A man was able to influence the weather. Elijah was not a child of God. He was not born again, and he was not a new covenant believer. He was simply a man who walked with God. Elijah was a man who co-labored with God and had influence with Him. Did you know that we can also operate on that same level with God? As we develop a relationship with Him and become established on what belongs to us, we can expect to go to a higher dimension in God. At this level, we can pray and EXPECT God to answer. It does not matter how big the problem is, God always has the solution. There is nothing too big for Him! Selah.

📖 See what [an incredible] quality of love the Father has given (shown, bestowed on) us, that we should [be permitted to] be named and called and counted the children of God! And so we are! The reason that the world does not know (recognize, acknowledge) us is that it does not know (recognize, acknowledge) Him. —I John 3:1 AMPC

What a privilege it is to be called the children of God. We aren’t servants, even though we should serve God. We are His children. He loves us so much that He would call us His children. Despite our shortcomings, despite our struggles, despite our imperfections, God deemed it appropriate to call us His children. He doesn’t see us the way we often see ourselves; He sees us through the Blood of Jesus. God sees us as righteous. He sees us as kings and priests. When we make Jesus the Lord of our lives, it puts us in a different class. Because of this, the world does not know or recognize us. They did not know or recognize Jesus, so we should expect no different. We are not of this world; we are of God! We should embrace this and meditate on this truth until it becomes a reality to us. We are the children of the almighty God—the Creator of the universe. When you finally get a revelation of this, it will change your life. It will change your perspective and take you to another level.

📖 The satraps, the prefects, the governors and the king’s counselors gathered around them and saw that in regard to these men the fire had no effect on their bodies—their hair was not singed, their clothes were not scorched or damaged, even the smell of smoke was not on them.

Nebuchadnezzar responded and said, “Blessed be the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego, who has sent His angel and rescued His servants who believed in, trusted in, and relied on Him! They violated the king’s command and surrendered their bodies rather than serve or worship any god except their own God.
—Daniel 3:27-28 AMPC

Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego had all gone in for God. They refused to bow to the statue of the king, and they were willing to sacrifice their lives rather than to disobey God. Because of their commitment to God, God came through for Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. Not only did God protect the three young men from the fire, but He also sent His angel to deliver them. Not only were those young men rescued, but they were promoted as well. We must realize that when we take a stand for God, He will take a stand for us. He will do the miraculous. He will send an angelic host. He will do whatever it takes to put His stamp of approval on us. God showed the king that those three Hebrew boys belonged to him, and when we stand for righteousness, God will do the same for us. God will always look out for His own. It pays to be in the household of faith.

📖 But watch out! Be very careful never to forget what you have seen God doing for you. May his miracles have a deep and permanent effect upon your lives! Tell your children and your grandchildren about the glorious miracles he did. —Deuteronomy 4:9 The Living Bible

When God does something in our lives, it should do something to us. It should draw us closer to Him. It should strengthen your trust level. It should cause you to depend on Him more. The Bible tells us that people overcame by the blood of the lamb and the word of their testimony (Revelation 12:11). Our testimonies should strengthen our resolve. It should remind us to keep trusting and to keep believing. If God did it before, He can do it again. When God does things in our lives, it should inspire other people. It should motivate and help them to keep standing on the promises of God. If God has done something miraculous in your life, tell someone. Tell your family. Tell your coworkers. Don’t keep it to yourself. Those miracles will not only have a deep and permanent effect on your life, but it could also have the same effect on the lives of others.

📖 But at the close of his life, Jehoshaphat, king of Judah, went into partnership with Ahaziah, king of Israel, who was a very wicked man.

They made ships in Ezion-geber to sail to Tarshish.

Then Eliezer, son of Dodavahu from Mareshah, prophesied against Jehoshaphat, telling him, “Because you have allied yourself with King Ahaziah, the Lord has destroyed your work.” So the ships met disaster and never arrived at Tarshish.
—II Chronicles 20:35-37 The Living Bible

Our associations are important. The latter part of Proverbs 13:20 tells us, “A companion of fools shall be destroyed”. This is what took place in Jehoshaphat’s life. He got into a partnership with Ahaziah, a wicked king. God destroyed their work because he allied himself with this king. We must be aware of our associations. The Word of God tells us that evil communications corrupt good manners (I Corinthians 15:33). Paul tells us in II Corinthians 6:14, “Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers”. We are to be the light of the world⎯we are not to be the world. We are to stand out! There is supposed to be a difference between the believer and the unbeliever. Let's take our place as ambassadors of the Lord Jesus Christ. We have to interact with the world, but we don’t have to become the world. Be careful of your associations, they can bring blessings, or they can bring disaster. The choice is yours.

📖 A fool vents all his emotions, but a wise person calmly restrains them.
—Proverbs 29:11 EHV

Sometimes we can allow our emotions to get the best of us. At times, we want to tell everyone what we have been through and how we feel about it. We want people to feel how we feel, but that is not always a good thing. In the book of James, we are told to be quick to hear and slow to speak (James 1:19). We must be disciplined with our tongue. We cannot allow ourselves to get angry to the point where we fly off the handle and say things that we will later regret. We must be willing to stay quiet until we are ready to speak from a place that is not from anger. We must not allow our emotions to rule us. We must allow our spirit man to dominate us. He is to be in control, especially if our spirit man has been born again. Jesus was always in control of His emotions, and as we continue to mature spiritually, we can do the same thing.

📖 “These were more fair-minded than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness, and searched the Scriptures daily to find out whether these things were so.” —Acts 17:10-11 NKJV

Are you still welcoming God’s message for your life? Are you still excited about the Word of God? Sometimes as Christians, we can forget the importance and value of the Word. The Word can liberate us from every trial or obstacle that may come our way. This is why we must be like the Christians of Berea, searching the scriptures daily. When we search the scriptures daily, we will remind ourselves of who God is and who we are in Him. We will have supreme confidence in his ability and his love for us. These reminders will cause us to reign in life as kings and priests unto God. So let us search the scriptures and walk in the victory God has for us!

📖 It happened after these things that Joshua the son of Nun, the servant of the Lord, died, at the age of a hundred and ten years.

They buried him in the territory of his inheritance in Timnath-serah, which is in the hill country of Ephraim, on the north side of Mount Gaash.
—Joshua 24:29-30 AMPC

Joshua died after living a long life. Not only did he enjoy a long life, but he also received his inheritance. Remember that Joshua was one of the twelve spies who spied out the land. Ten of the twelve brought an evil report, but Joshua brought back a good report. He and Caleb believed that they could take the land and walk in the inheritance that God had for them. Both walked in what God preordained for them to. They held fast to their confession of faith and received it after standing for over forty years. We can walk in all that God has for us if we will do the same. We must believe the Word of God and stand on it. We must also hold on to the Word until we attain what He has promised, regardless of how long it takes. God is not a man that He should lie. If we stand, He will come through. He always does.

📖 But I will hope continually, and will praise You yet more and more. —Psalm 71:14 AMPC

Hope is important. The Bible tells us that “hope deferred makes the heart sick” (Proverbs 13:2). We should never deprive people of hope. Faith is the substance of things hoped for... (Hebrews 11:1). You could look at it like this: hope is the blueprint, and faith is the materials to make the blueprint a reality. We must not belittle hope. The Bible tells us that Abraham “against hope believed in hope” (Romans 4:18). Abraham had to hope when the circumstances told him that what he was believing for was impossible. He had to find hope in what God had told him. That is how we maintain our hope. We keep our faith in what God has told us, and we believe it because it is impossible for God to lie. Hope is to be the anchor to our soul. We must hope continually and continue to praise Him more. We must praise Him because He is the God of hope. He can turn every negative situation around.

📖 And more and more believers were added to the Lord, crowds both of men and women.  Sick people were brought out into the streets on beds and mats so that at least Peter’s shadow would fall across some of them as he went by! And crowds came in from the Jerusalem suburbs, bringing their sick folk and those possessed by demons; and every one of them was healed.  ⎯Acts 5:14-16 The Living Bible

Look at how God was using Peter. There were so many miracles and healings taking place that they simply wanted his shadow to come across those who were sick.  Everyone that came from the Jerusalem suburbs was healed. This is Peter. He was the same man who denied Jesus three times. This is the man who left the disciples and went back to fishing. Peter could have given up. He could have done what Judas did, but he didn’t. He bounced back. Peter did not allow the past to hinder his future. Even though he made mistakes, God had not changed His mind about what He had for him. In the same fashion, God has not changed His mind about you! When you confess your sins, He forgives and forgets. He wants you to finish your race and to finish it with joy. So, don’t give up on God, because He won’t ever give up on you.

📖 Where no counsel is, the people fall: but in the multitude of counsellors there is safety.
⎯Proverbs 11:14 KJV

We’ve all made mistakes. Many times, we could have avoided those mistakes if we had simply sought Godly counsel. We should seek first the guidance of the Holy Spirit. He has been sent to lead and guide us. In the Amplified version of the Bible, the Holy Spirit is referred to as our Counselor, Helper, Advocate, Intercessor, Strengthener, and Standby. Another way that we can receive assistance in making good decisions, is by getting advice from a man or woman of God. We should consult someone who is walking with the Lord and has a renewed mind. Psalm 1 tells us not to seek counsel from the ungodly (v.1). The thoughts of the ungodly are contrary to God’s thoughts, and we must stay clear of anyone or anything that disagrees with God. God will lead you and guide you when you seek His face. He may speak to us directly, or He may use another individual, but either way, He offers us help. He will lead and guide us in the way that we should go.

📖 After three days they found Him [came upon Him] in the [court of the] temple, sitting among the teachers, listening to them and asking them questions.

And all who heard Him were astonished and overwhelmed with bewildered wonder at His intelligence and understanding and His replies.

And when they [Joseph and Mary] saw Him, they were amazed; and His mother said to Him, Child, why have You treated us like this? Here Your father and I have been anxiously looking for You [distressed and tormented].

And He said to them, How is it that you had to look for Me? Did you not see and know that it is necessary [as a duty] for Me to be in My Father’s house and [occupied] about My Father’s business?
⎯Luke 2: 46-49 AMPC

There were two things that Jesus saw as a duty. The first duty was to be in His Father’s House (the temple). The second duty was to be about His Father’s business. We must embrace both duties. We must embrace being in the house of God and we must embrace being about our Father’s business. We are not to forsake the assembling of ourselves together (Hebrews 10:25). We should be in church as much as we can. We should also be about the work of the kingdom. We need to be concerned about the great commission. We need to go about getting people saved, casting out devils, and laying hands on the sick. We are God’s ambassadors and His representatives, if we don’t do it, who will? We have to be about our Father’s business.

📖 Besides, to which of the angels has He ever said, Sit at My right hand [associated with Me in My royal dignity] till I make your enemies a stool for your feet?

Are not the angels all ministering spirits (servants) sent out in the service [of God for the assistance] of those who are to inherit salvation?
⎯Hebrews 1:13-14 AMPC

Don’t forget about your angels. They are ministering spirits who are sent to assist those who have inherited (received) salvation. When we speak the Word of God, the angels do His commandments (His Word) and hearken unto the voice of His Word (Psalm 103:20). Speaking the Word of God activates the angels and causes them to move on our behalf. When we speak the Word of God, we give the angels an assignment to carry out. Many angels are sitting idle because many believers never quote or speak the Word of God. Don’t allow the angels to sit dormant in your life. They are our servants, and they are ready to move.

📖 And He was not able to do even one work of power there, except that He laid His hands on a few sickly people [and] cured them.

And He marveled because of their unbelief (their lack of faith in Him). And He went about among the surrounding villages and continued teaching.
⎯Mark 6: 5-6 AMPC

Jesus had preached in His hometown, and the people did not receive Him. He was unable to do any mighty works there because of their unbelief. The power was available, but their unbelief kept them from receiving and benefiting from that power. In order for us to receive from God, we must receive by faith. Faith connects us to the power of God. God is not keeping anything good from us. Many times, we are hindering the power of God from flowing in our lives. If we will simply believe God’s Word and act like His Word is true, we will see more of His power in our lives. God loves us and desires to do more for us. Let’s not forget that He is looking to show Himself strong in the lives of those whose hearts are perfect toward Him (2 Chronicles 16:9). What will He find when He looks at you?

📖 I will instruct you (says the Lord) and guide you along the best pathway for your life; I will advise you and watch your progress. —Psalm 32:8 The Living Bible

God does not want us to be in the same place for the rest of our lives. He expects us to go from glory to glory. We can expect to make progress in our lives when we follow His advice. We can expect progress when we are doers of the Word and not hearers only. God will instruct and guide us along the best path when we make ourselves available to Him. We can hear Him better when we make time for Him. God desires to fellowship and commune with us. It is during those times that He can reveal His plans for our lives. His plans for us are always good because He is a good God. Our lives can go in the wrong direction when we seek our own way instead of seeking His. Our desire should be God’s best, and we can truly experience this as we allow Him to lead and guide us in the way that we should go.
