And when I saw Him, I fell at His feet as dead. But He laid His right hand on me, saying to me, “Do not be afraid; I am the First and the Last."
John had an encounter with Jesus that overwhelmed him and he fell at Jesus’ feet feeling lifeless. Jesus laid His right hand on John and said, “Do not be afraid; I am the First and the Last.” Those are beautiful words that should always remind us to turn to the Lord to see what he has to say after we have heard from earthlings. God had the first words. He spoke and everything came into existence. He will have the last words and everything will come to a final conclusion. Everything that is said in the meantime by humans is subject to change. The weather forecast is subject to change. The doctor’s diagnosis or prognosis is subject to change. The financial advisor’s predictions are subject to change. The only words that are not subject to change are the words of God. So when we hear what man has to say, we must then turn to God and see what He has to say for He is the “Last” which means His word, not man’s, is the final word on everything. Oh what peace we forfeit when we draw our conclusions before checking with the “Last.”
