Luke 11:1 NKJV
Now it came to pass, as He was praying in a certain place, when He ceased, that one of His disciples said to Him, “Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples.”
More than likely the disciples prayed many times, even before they met Jesus. However, we see in this passage that they are asking Him for help with the subject of prayer. No matter how much and how long we have been praying, it is wise to be humble before God and let Him continually teach us in every area including prayer. Paul wrote in Romans 8:26 NKJV: “ Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.” We may know a lot about prayer but we don’t know it all. Sometimes we need the help of the Holy Spirit who knows all things to assist us in how to pray for a particular situation. That’s why it is so helpful to be able to go beyond our minds and pray with our spirits as the Holy Spirit directs us.
