1 Timothy 2:1-2 NKJV

Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence.

Paul exhorted Timothy, a young pastor, about praying for governmentalleaders. This instruction was for the church, not just Timothy. Paul encouraged him to pray for governmental leaders so the church could enjoy a quiet and peaceful life. As he continued the letter, Paul said that God was pleased with that kind of prayer because the Lord wanted everyone to be saved. It is easier to continue the spreading of the gospel when those in leadership are not hindering our ability to do so, and when there is no civil unrest due to problems with the government. So we must not take our freedoms for granted. We must pray daily for governmental leaders on all levels - city, state, country, etc. that we may enjoy a peaceful life. When we are enjoying relative peace, we must use our time wisely and do what we can to accomplish our divine assignments. It does not take much spiritual discernment to see that time must be taken seriously. We are moving quickly towards the end of time as we know it. The earth is in travail, and turmoil is all around us. Let us make this world a better, more peaceful place while we are here, starting at home, in our workplace and in our local church.
