Exodus 40:9 NKJV
“And you shall take the anointing oil, and anoint the tabernacle and all that is in it; and you shall hallow it and all its utensils, and it shall be holy.
The tabernacle was the place set aside for worship to the Lord. There the high priest made atonement for the sins of the people. The desire to see others forgiven comes from God. Just as intercession was made for the sins of God’s people in the tabernacle, we the dwelling place of God must seek God’s forgiveness for others. The world may seek to condemn the guilty, but we seek forgiveness and restoration for them - especially in the church.
Galatians 6:1 NKJV
Brethren, if a man is overtaken in any trespass, you who are spiritual restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness, considering yourself lest you also be tempted.
The high priest had to first make atonement for himself before performing the ritual for others. If we have committed any sin, we must repent of our own transgressions before praying for forgiveness for others.
1 John 1:9 NKJV
If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
1 John 5:16
If anyone sees his brother sinning a sin which does not lead to death, he will ask, and He will give him life for those who commit sin not leading to death. There is sin leading to death. I do not say that he should pray about that. All unrighteousness is sin, and there is sin not leading to death.
James 5:14-16
Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer of faith will save the sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven. Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.
