Water Part 23

Psalm 29:3 NKJV

The voice of the Lord is over the waters; The God of glory thunders; The Lord is over many waters.

David had a close relationship with the Lord, which can be seen in his writings. It is interesting to see how he talks about the Lord and waters. He speaks of God and His voice over waters. When it comes to the spiritual interpretation of waters, we can see that the Lord speaks by the Holy Spirit in line with His Word. A minister can preach a good and moving sermon, but if it is not based on the Word and there is no anointing on it, it's just the man or woman speaking. When the Holy Spirit is in charge and the anointing is added to the Word, it is God speaking through the person. When the anointed Word goes forth, Jesus shows up and confirms it. So we must never depend solely on our knowledge of the Word when we try to help people. We must seek God's anointing on us to be more effective in helping others. All it takes is asking God to help us and speak through us, then trusting Him to do just that.

Mark 16:20 NKJV says., "And they went out and preached everywhere, the Lord working with them and confirming the word through the accompanying signs. Amen.

Water Part 22

Job 38:34 NKJV

“Can you lift up your voice to the clouds,
That an abundance of water may cover you?

God stunned Job with revelations of God’s omnipotence and grandeur. One of the questions He asked Job was about his ability to cause the clouds to produce heavy rain. Although in science we learn the technicalities about how the clouds produce rain, God created the process. Furthermore, He can speak and clouds can bring rain even if they were not technically supposed to at the moment. Jesus demonstrated God’s power over nature when He walked on water and calmed a storm.

Spiritual parallel: We can know technically how to cause the Word to produce in our lives. We can know technically how to create an environment for the Holy Spirit to minister to us. However, only God can lift up His voice and produce an outpouring of the water of the Word and the Spirit that is beyond the normal. So we can just be satisfied with what we can do ourselves, or we can look to God to do beyond what we can and soak us in the water of the Word and the Spirit. That takes diligence. He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him. There are benefits for seeking the Lord. But there are greater rewards for those who do so diligently. (Hebrews 11:6) There is rain for one and a downpour for the other.

Job 24:19 NKJV

As drought and heat consume the snow waters, So the grave consumes those who have sinned.

As Job spoke about the plight of sinners, he used for example the drought and heat consuming water. If we experience a natural drought the only thing that would save us from suffering the damaging effects would be stored up water that could be used while we await the end of the drought. A back up water supply will help when the normal water supply is unavailable.

Spiritual parallel:  The heat of life uses up the spiritual waters we have taken in. We cannot live today off of yesterday's watering. We need a constant supply to handle the constant challenges we face. Living in the world exposes us to heat. We face persecution and other types of adversities without looking for them. It is good to take in extra water sometimes to build up reserves for times when we may not have the ability to get much water. For example, a pregnant woman needs to stock up in the latter stages of her pregnancy to help her when she has a drought after giving birth. It may be days or weeks before she can begin to catch up with prayer and Bible study. It will be years before she can return to what it was like before children came along. So she will need to be creative when it comes to getting sufficient water even after she recovers from the birthing process. A pregnant woman who prepares properly will not have postpartum blues. This principle applies to anyone dealing with situations that require coping with the stress of trying to recover from trauma or extreme circumstances. We must take advantage of times to take in extra water. It will help us during the times when the opportunities may be scarce.

Water Part 20

Job 14:19 NKJV

As water wears away stones, And as torrents wash away the soil of the earth; So You destroy the hope of man.

Job mentions water wearing away stones as he speaks to God while enduring great misery. He misunderstood God but he displayed a little knowledge about nature in his conversation. Because of the constant flow of water over them, rocks on the beach or in a stream are made smooth. The moving water removes their rough edges and produce what we call pebbles. Rough edges on stones make them more harmful than smooth stones.

Spiritual parallel: There are rough edges in all our lives. The more rough edges we have, the greater the potential of hurting others. In the book of Psalms we find several references to a sharp tongue in the context of people hurting others. Just as natural water helps get rid of sharp or rough edges, the water of the Word and the Spirit can help us get rid of the rough and sharp edges in our lives, particularly our mouths. The speed in which a pebble develops depends on the speed of the current running over it. The greater the force, the faster the pebble is created. If our rough edges seem to take too long to become smooth, we need to increase the force of the Word and the Spirit in our lives. We can increase the force by letting the spiritual water wash us over and over, back to back, and lifting up our voices to forcefully agree with the Word we hear.

Water Part 19

You also gave Your good Spirit to instruct them,
And did not withhold Your manna from their mouth,
And gave them water for their thirst.

The restoration of the wall of Jerusalem was completed under the leadership of Nehemiah. In addition to this great project being completed, there was a spiritual revival among God’s people. Please note that as the Israelites were praising God at a large gathering, rehearsing the goodness of God toward them, someone mentioned that God gave them water for their thirst. Although people pick a variety of liquids when they are thirsty, there is no substitute for water. When Israel was thirsty, God gave them something that would quench their thirst like nothing else.

Spiritual parallel: When we are thirsty spiritually, when there seems to be dryness in any area of our lives, there is no substitute for the water of the Word and the Spirit to meet the need. We waste time and effort trying to fulfill the thirst in our souls and spirits another way. When we go to God at such a time, He only has one thing to offer – water – the Word and the Spirit. As He did in the wilderness, He still brings water from the Rock (Christ).

Water Part 18

2 Kings 20:20 NKJV

Now the rest of the acts of Hezekiah-all his might, and how he made a pool and a tunnel and brought water into the city-are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah?

It would not be possible to record the entire life of anyone. So when writing about individuals in the Bible, authors chose the highlights. Hezekiah was remembered for designing and constructing a water tunnel to bring water into the city of Bethlehem. He strategized to eliminate a water supply his enemy cold use if he attacked Jerusalem. Meanwhile, Hezekiah made a way to maintain a water supply for his people until the enemy gave up.

Spiritual parallel: Will providing a source of water be in our story? Hezekiah was remembered for his creativity and his good deed in providing a critical resource. The water of the Word and the Spirit is a critical resource in our generation. People are in desperate need. Will we trust God for creativity to provide spiritual water for as many as possible? I pray that as people recall our stories, if they don't have a lot of time, they will mention how we brought "water" to those in need.
