Water Part 17

2 Samuel 12:27 NKJV

[27] And Joab sent messengers to David, and said, "I have fought against Rabbah, and I have taken the city's water supply.

Joab was talking about war when he mentioned he had taken the city's water supply. This action would severely hinder the city's ability to defend itself, thus making it easier to defeat.

Spiritual parallel:  In order for the enemy to destroy us spiritually, he must cut off our spiritual water supply. If he can hinder our access to the Word and the Holy Spirit, it will make it easier for us to be defeated. Therefore, we must carefully guard our water supply. We must be vigilant and respond to any attack on our interaction with the Word and the Spirit and fight back to protect our supply. In order for us to stay strong in battle and stay victorious, we must stay spiritually hydrated.

Water Part 16

Deuteronomy 11:4 NKJV

what He did to the army of Egypt, to their horses and their chariots: how He made the waters of the Red Sea overflow them as they pursued you, and how the Lord has destroyed them to this day;

Moses told the younger Israelites how God judged the enemies of Israel and drowned them in the Red Sea.

 Spiritual parallel: Just as God’s people went through the waters of Red Sea to the way that led to the Promised Land, we get to our “promised land” by way of the waters of the Word and the Spirit. On the other hand, what is a blessing to us is judgment to our enemies. By the Word of God and the Spirit of God, those pursuing Israel to destroy them were themselves destroyed. We appropriate the water of God’s Word and Spirit to enter into victory. We use the same water to destroy the plans of the devil.

Water Part 15

Deuteronomy 8:15 NKJV

who led you through that great and terrible wilderness, in which were fiery serpents and scorpions and thirsty land where there was no water; who brought water for you out of the flinty rock;

As Moses recounted the stories of God’s goodness to Israel, he pointed out that God brought them water out of the flinty rock. Flint is a hard stone which would make it very hard for anything to pass through it. This made it very obvious that a miracle was taking place. Not only did water come out of a rock, but it came out a rock that was not porous. It was a solid rock.

Spiritual parallel: God can feed us spiritually in the midst of seemingly impossible situations. If we look to Him as our Source, even if the preacher or teacher we are listening to does not seem to be saying much, God can speak to us through him or her. So, when we go to church or some meeting, let us expect to hear from God, not man. I have had God speak to me through a movie that had nothing to do with the Bible or the things of God. I have had the Lord teach me from a scripture I thought was just a technical inclusion and was not meant to teach anything. God spoke through a donkey. We cannot limit God to our traditional ways or religious experiences. I have seen the Spirit of God show up in a situation that was totally surprising to me. I could not credit His showing up to anything I or anyone around me did. May God help us to take the limits off of Him, get Him out of our boxes and let Him be His supernatural self while we just enjoy Him every day.

Water Part 14

Deuteronomy 8:7 NKJV

For the LORD your God is bringing you into a good land, a land of brooks of water, of fountains and springs, that flow out of valleys and hills;

As Moses described the good land God was giving to the Israelites, he mentioned that it would be a "land of brooks of water, of fountains and springs that flow out of valleys and hills." In other words, it would be a well-watered land - no shortage of water.

Spiritual parallel: A life that is filled with the Word and the Spirit is a good life. A good life is not free of challenges on earth. A good life is full of victory. We just keep winning. In order to enjoy the good life God intended for us to have, our lives need to be well-watered. There must be no shortage of the Word and no shortage of the Holy Spirit. How can we accomplish this? Measure how much we are getting of both and compare it to how much we are getting of worldly and secular things. In our age, God has blessed us to surround ourselves with the Word. It is available to be posted, listened to and watched on electronic devices, and spoken from our mouths as we fill our hearts with it. If we are not enjoying a good life, let us move ourselves to a “land full of water.”

Water Part 13

Numbers 24:5-6 NKJV

“How lovely are your tents, O Jacob!
Your dwellings, O Israel!
Like valleys that stretch out,
Like gardens by the riverside,
Like aloes planted by the Lord,
Like cedars beside the waters.

A prophet was speaking as an oracle of God about the nation of Israel. He talked about the tremendous blessing of God on that nation. One of the things he said was that they were like gardens by the riverside and cedars planted beside the waters. If a tree to is planted near a river or lake, it would never dry up. Its roots would always have access to water. If the tree is always well-watered, it would bring forth fruit continually.

Spiritual parallel: If we want to bring forth fruit continually, we must locate ourselves permanently near our water supply.

In Psalm 1:1-3 NKJV, the psalmist gives us clues as to what it means to be located near our water supply. He points out that the man who refuses to pattern his life after ungodly people, but chooses to delight himself in God’s Word, is one who is like a tree planted by the water. This man meditates God’s teachings day and night. In order to meditate the Word day and night, we cannot be far away from it. It has to be close. With consistent diligent effort, and by staying in fellowship with the Holy Spirit, we can fill our hearts with the Word and thereby keep it close to us all the time. When the Word fills our hearts, even if we lost the written or digital Word, we will be able to constantly draw it out of our spiritual wells and water our soul and spirit. Our spiritual address will become obvious. Trees near water bring forth fruit at the right time. Their leaves do not wither. In like manner, the man close to the water of the Word and the Spirit will experience prosperity in all he does. In other words, our productivity will reveal our location.

Water Part 12

Numbers 20:8 NKJV

“Take the rod; you and your brother Aaron gather the congregation together. Speak to the rock before their eyes, and it will yield its water; thus you shall bring water for them out of the rock, and give drink to the congregation and their animals."

As they were traveling to the Promised Land, the Israelites came to a place where they were out of water and could not find any. They verbally attacked Moses and Aaron, blaming them for the dilemma. God told Moses to speak to a rock to get water for the people.

Spiritual parallel: When there is a drought spiritually, the wrong thing to do is look to human beings as the source of your problem or your solution. We need to go to the Rock. The rock in the wilderness was a type of Christ. He is the One who satisfies our thirst.

 John 4:13-14 NKJV: Jesus answered and said to her, "Whoever drinks of this water will thirst again, but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst. But the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life."

John 7:37-39 NKJV: On the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink. 38 He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.” 39 But this He spoke concerning the Spirit, whom those believing in Him would receive; for the Holy] Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet glorified.

Even when we go to the Word, it can be just ink on paper or words on a screen unless we get the help of the Holy Spirit to cause it to quench our thirsty hearts.  The water of the Spirit was made possible by Jesus Christ.

John 16:7, 12-15 NKJV: Nevertheless I tell you the truth. It is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I depart, I will send Him to you.

“I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now.13 However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come. 14 He will glorify Me, for He will take of what is Mine and declare it to you. 15 All things that the Father has are Mine. Therefore I said that He will take of Mine and declare it to you.

John 14:26 NKJV: But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you.
