Student wins case concerning her religious belief violation in Chicago public schools
A young woman in Chicago has won her case after taking a stand for her faith. Mariyah Green was awarded 150-thousand dollars in damages for what attorneys called a violation of her Christian faith. According to Green, the high school she attended began incorporating mandated quiet time during the school day. The quiet time sessions turned into idol worship according to Green. The student says the instructor introduced mantras from the Hindu religion. The instructor also posted a picture of a Hindu guru and asked students to chant mantras and bow to the image. Green says she refused, citing her Christian faith. She later says the instructor told students not to tell anyone including parents because the mantras wouldn’t be effective if what they were doing “got out”.  Attorneys for the student say the rituals were a violation of Ms. Green’s Christian faith. The Chicago public school system claims they ended the program in 2020 and no students’ constitutional rights were violated.

Parents protest Satan Afterschool club in Connecticut

Parents in Connecticut are criticizing a local school due to its plans to host a controversial after school club. A recent announcement claims an Afterschool Satan Club will host monthly meetings at Lebanon Elementary School. According to the announcement, students attending will participate in various activities including science, nature, and games. The group claims students will be a part of a, “non-theistic club that rejects tyranny and champions the human mind and spirit.” Parents say the group is deeply offensive and inappropriate for children. Representatives for the After School Satan Club claim they are not pushing religion but offering an alternative to the more popular Good News Club. CBN News reports despite these claims an advertisement for the group encourages children to embrace Satan as an imaginary friend. The superintendent of Lebanon Public Schools says they must allow the group to use its facility according to the law.
