Coach fired for overseeing student baptisms
A coach in Georgia has been fired from his position for conducting baptisms for his team. Coach Isaac Ferrell was removed as head coach of Tattnall County High School’s football team following the baptism event in October. The coach arranged for players who had recently accepted Christ to be baptized. According to the video every student participated without being forced and fellow teammates cheered as each player was baptized. This note is important because critics claimed the students were forced to participate. Parents of the 20 students involved praised the coach for helping to change their children’s lives, not just to win football games. One parent commented that her son was disappointed after Coach Ferrell was fired. An atheist organization claims the baptism was a violation of federal laws. Following pressure from opponents, the school’s superintendent released Ferrell from his position as head coach of the team.  The superintendent claims the incident had nothing to do with the coach being fired and his dismissal was the result of a previous incident. Coach Ferrell is still employed as a teacher with the school system as the board continues their investigation.
