US Supreme Court will hear case for/ against trans sports
The U.S. Supreme Court will hear two cases concerning biological sex and sports. According to a recent report the nation’s highest court will hear two cases from Idaho and West Virginia concerning inclusion in sports for transgender athletes. One case involves a student, who is a biological male, who sued after being banned from joining the women’s cross-country team at Boise State University. The student sued claiming that he was discriminated against by the school. The student was later allowed to play following Idaho’s lower court blocking a Fairness in Women’s sports act. The opposing side in the case wants the Supreme Court to rule that this law should be enforced in the state of Idaho and observed nationwide. In West Virginia, a biological student was banned from participating in a girls’ middle school’s cross-country team. The state of West Virginia also has a law protecting women’s sports. The Trump Administration has sided with West Virginia and Idaho in this matter; the case is expected to be heard in June of next year.
