Former transgender patient wins case against doctors
A woman in New York has one a landmark case against her former medical doctors. Fox Varian sued her former psychologist and plastic surgeon for a transgender procedure. Varian was 16 when her breasts were removed as part of her transitioning. Once she became an adult, the woman realized she no longer identified as she did as a youth and sued her former doctors for malpractice. Varian claimed her body was irrevocably altered and those responsible should be held liable for their so-called medical care as the woman later referred to her treatment. A jury recently awarded the young woman 2 million dollars. Critics say this is exactly why children should be banned from having these kinds of surgeries. There are studies and those who have detransitioned that confirm once a child matures, they change their mind. A reporter commented that this court case may mark a change in the American medical community where doctors’ will once again focus on children’s health and not altering their bodies.
