Philippians 4:6-7 NKJV
Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
Paul told the church at Philippi to refuse anxiety. That’s more easily said than done when we are facing challenges. So he did not stop there, he told them how. He said that instead of being anxious or worrying, give the situation to the Lord in prayer. There’s an old song that says, “Take your burdens to the Lord and leave them there.” One of the ways we can get rid of those anxieties is to spend time in prayer and, as Paul said, add thanksgiving. In other words end the prayer with an attitude that it’s taken care of. When we trust God to handle something we can thank Him in advance. Paul said when we do it that way the peace of God which cannot be explained will protect our hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. As long as we are dealing with anxiety, something is missing. Sometimes we can be free of the worry and then the devil tries to bring it back. We need to be steadfast in our determination not to be anxious and remind the Lord that we have given the situation over to Him and praise Him and thank Him until our minds are free again. We live in a world where there is spiritual warfare on a continual basis but the Lord has equipped us to win. We don’t need to try anything new. We just need to keep doing what God says and we will see our breakthrough.
