Persecution continues against Jewish students at Ivy League college
Columbia University is finally taking some action after ongoing protests and persecution of Jewish students. The school’s president announced a day of virtual classes followed by an increase in security personnel. The campus has been the focus of several anti-Israeli protests since the October 7th attacks in Israel. Following the military offensive by the Jewish nation, students at several colleges and universities have stages protests against Israel. The intense persecution has also led to attacks on Jewish students on several campuses. Most university leaders have failed to call for an end to the violence until pressured by the American public. Students on some campuses have even filed lawsuits due to violence and intimidation from other students. Multiple campuses have seen what are being called protest or Anti-Israel encampments at several Ivy League colleges including: NYU, MIT, Yale, Columbia and Emerson College. (SNBC NEWS NOTE: a Rabbi in the New York City area warned Jewish students to leave the campuses of NYU and Columbia. The Rabbi further added that he believes all Jewish people should leave the state of New York. This is a significant statement due to the Jewish population in that state. According to a 2020 report over 1.9 million Jews live in the New York-Newark-Jersey City area overall. 1.3 million live in one of the five boroughs that make up New York City).
US confirms Israeli attack on Iranian consulate
US officials confirmed Israeli forces have retaliated against an attack by Iran. A division of the Iranian military along with three other terrorists’ groups launched 300 missiles into Israel’s capital and the Golan Heights region. The attack caused minor injuries to citizens in these areas, but no one was killed. Most of the missiles were deflected by the Israeli defense system known as the Iron Dome. Several allies, including the U.S., condemned the attacks on Israel by Iran. The Biden Administration released a statement saying they strongly advised Israel’s Prime Minister to think about any form of retaliation and consider the success of Israel’s defense system as a show of military superiority. Iranian officials say the attack was in response to Israel’s attack on Hamas following the October 7th attacks.
Bible importance grows among young adults in the U.S.
Good news: the importance of the Bible is growing among young adults. A study released by the American Bible Society finds 54 percent of young adults ages 18 to 27 agree the message of the Bible has changed their lives. This statistic is up 50 percent from last year. The study did find 57 percent of Americans are disengaged with the Bible which is about 10 million Americans. The study also found an increase in Bible scripture engagement among Black Americans by 28 percent, but a decrease among White Americans by 16 percent. The study is a part of a published work called the state of the Bible; more parts of the study are expected to be released later this year.
SNBC Health report: Six Healthy Lifestyle Habits that May Help Slow Memory Decline
Some people notice changes in memory as they get older, which one study suggests you can influence by making lifestyle changes in diet, exercise, cognitive activity and social contact.
A group of Chinese researchers sought to identify the types of lifestyle choices that might protect against memory loss as an individual ages. In their study of almost 30,000 participants, with follow up over a 10-year period, they found three distinct groups:
The individuals who had a healthy diet had the strongest protection against memory decline. This was followed by those who engaged in cognitive activity and then physical exercise.
As I reported in a recent broadcast, linoleic acid is a fat contained in seed oils that negatively influences overall health and brain health. This oil has been described as the most destructive ingredient in your diet. It is used in most restaurant and fast-food preparations and should be avoided.
Other strategies that can protect your memory and cognitive health include eating organic mushrooms — also known as the "master antioxidant,”
Addressing periodontal disease —The risk of mild cognitive impairment in those with periodontal disease is significantly higher than in those without periodontal disease.
Taking Magnesium Threonate – This powerful supplement, when taken orally, has the ability to increase the communication connections between brain cells, and can possibly reverse brain aging by more than nine years.
Avoiding statins if at all possible — Statins are promoted to help protect against cardiovascular disease, yet they do not. People with early mild cognitive impairment and low to moderate cholesterol levels may more than double their risk of dementia when they use statin medications.
And finally, regular exercise is very important for a healthy brain and can reduce or eliminate the need for cholesterol medications.
While nutrition and lifestyle are very helpful in protecting us against memory decline, as Christians, our most important helper is the Holy Spirit, who brings things to our remembrance, which has been especially helpful to me when I’ve misplaced my car keys in the past. Also, we have the mind of Christ and the wisdom of God that will help keep our minds strong and disease free.
